Hey everyone,
So I run a digital-magazine type website that discusses fitness products. Our information is pretty unique and easy-to-understand. We started in January and now we do about 1k organic traffic and 600 direct traffic a month, 1.6k total monthly traffic. From this, we get about 400 clicks on our recommended products, which redirects people to Amazon where there is a 9% conversion rate on average. In other words, for every 1600 people we sell 36 products, direct and indirect. That being said, our margin on these products is very low - around 3%, so we're finding it difficult to stay afloat with our current earnings (or lack thereof).
Now, I was recently informed that we can consider drop shipping as an option for higher margins. I am all for the idea, but I had a few doubts, the products we have listed that are converting customers are:
- Somewhat premium products with reliable manufacturing.
- Have a recognizable brand name sometimes.
- Are listed on Amazon, which is trustworthy and puts people's minds at ease when buying online.
If we were to list these same products on our website and change our website into an e-commerce store, our commissions would be higher for certain. However, will products that don't have any brand name, no other information on the internet to verify their build quality, and listed on an unknown website convert well enough to warrant the cost of switching to drop shipping?
