Like many people - I am looking to generate passive income online. I am not in the bucket of "looking to get rich quickly and easily" - I understand it will take a lot of time, expertise, and work.
I have learned from past experience that the monetization method is extremely important for a revenue generating website or blog - so before I set off on my endeavor, I want to determine the best method. Here are some monetization ideas that come to mind, along with my pros and cons for each:
- Selling leads in the service-based industry (like Thumbtack or Angies list)
- Pros - lots of money in it
- Cons - competitive, work required in establishing network and dealing with said network
- A "rank and rent" website
- Pros - lots of money in it
- Cons - Relatively sketchy from what i've seen because the people i've seen do it essentially create a fake company
- Affiliate Links
- Pros - 100% automated
- Cons - Work to sell the affiliate links, I don't know much about it
- Banner Advertising
- Pros - 100% automated
- Cons - from my understanding it requires a huge amount of traffic for fractions of cents per impression (but I don't know - curious on feedback from people who do this)
- Generating newsletter signups and selling e-blasts or ad space to companies looking to advertise to that targeted network
- Pros - lots of money in it
- Work required in selling the advertising, reporting to clients, etc.
- Selling guest blogs/backlinks
- Pros - easy and huge market for it
- Cons - Sketchy and risky
Does anyone reading this have success with any of these methods? Suggestions on the most profitable options? Any options that I did not list? I know it is largely dependent on the niche and type of website.
Looking for general feedback from any internet gurus who have truly made it in the passive income SEO (and/or PPC) game.
