New Zealand based business and currently have a .com domain and website. Would buying a .co.nz help our rankings?

Hi guys,

We have a NZ based business, that's mainly based only in New Zealand.

We currently have a .com domain but really struggle to rank highly on a few specific keywords.

One of our competitors have a .co.nz domain and I was wondering if buying the .co.nz domain and then do a URL divert to go from .co.nz to our main .com page.

Would that help the SEO rankings?
