Infinity Free Hosting for PBNs

I'm looking to start building a wide broad network of PBNs. I came across a web-hosting program known as Infinity. It's advertised as a 'free forever' web-hosting service, which is great as owning hundreds of PBNs would be expensive to pay for if hosting was not free.

I was wondering if there is anyone in this subreddit who has worked with Infinity. What were your experiences using Infinity? Would you recommend running hundreds of PBNs using it? Thank you.

Is trying to decrease the position of a particular page an SEO practice? If so, how?

Hi everybody,

I'm not really into SEO, I mean when I looked last, meta keywords and backlinks were still what are considered SEO.

Nowadays it seems (to me) that SEO is mainly content generation (a shitload of content crossposted anywhere possible) and analysis with paid tool like Ahref and Semrush... Besides webdev best practices like semantic tags, images optimization, accessibility, page load speed, and so on..

So far, can anyone tell me if I'm completely off track?

Anyway doing the best in order to increase a particular page rank in SERP is the purpose of SEO. And it's possibly done with those practices I need to have a better understanding.

Now I want to ask the following. Trying to decrease a page from SERP, is it considered an SEO practice?

If so, how to achieve that?

Some details about my particular need:
It may appear that someone want to do that to decrease a competitor website, in my case it's not related at all.

I have a friend that is starting municipal politics and when we put his name in Google, there is an article from a news site that appears in the SERP.

The problem is that this link is related to a trial he actually won vs a company, but the title displayed on the SERP for that link is kinda clickbait and suggest that he was guilty.

He is worrying because many people might have an idea of him without even looking and actually reading that article.

So my question is how can I produce counter effects to decrease that link?

I know it's something that will probably (surely) needs time. But how can I start this?

Currently with only his name the related article show up in second page, but associated with the company name it appears in first page.

I guess we can produce many posts and contents and social activities somehow related to his name in order to have more results in the first page and maybe move downwards that targeted webpage in the SERP.

Does those SEO tools provide analysis for a link in order to know which keywords to target?

Thank you for reading me despite my bad English. And if it's not the right place to ask this question, sorry I'll post it elsewhere more appropriate..

Website ranking for cities other than the one you are in

Hello! I was talking to a Google AdWords marketing guy (who was trying to sell me on his service obviously) and he said without buying ad space my business will only show up in the town it is in when someone searches for my services on google, UNLESS they are searching for the service from a close by town and there isn’t a business that offers services like mine in it. This is a problem for me because I need to reach out to people all over my state not just the town I am in. So, how can I make my website show up in other city and town searches organically? Is there a way to do this without buying ads?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Canadian business with .COM domain - should I switch to .CA?

Hello! New user to this sub so I apologize if it's covered elsewhere.

I'm running the backend stuff for my wife's Canadian business (website/wordpress, Google ads, accounting, etc). It's fairly new but things are starting to finally go well with her clients and Google Ads. So I want to push further with the SEO and get things set up properly long term and be less reliant on Google Ads.

I purchased the .COM domain thinking for the future if we expanded internationally it would be better to have the .COM instead of the .CA for reputation and all that jazz. I've been researching into SEO a bit more and it appears a .CA would have better SEO results for Canada -- which is where we are and targeting clients and will be for the next foreseeable future as it's a regulated profession and the laws change from Country to Country and even Province to Province and State to State.

Anyhow, I've purchased the .CA domain also. There is very little content, page authority or domain authority currently on the .COM website. Again, our focus for the near future will be strictly Canada (expanding into the US may or may not happen). My questions are:

  1. Should I switch our website (wordpress) over to the .CA domain and start my SEO from that instead of the .COM?

  2. Do I lose my "link juice" (probably next to none) if I do a redirect from the .COM to the .CA?

Anything else I might have missed or didn't consider?

Thanks so much for any insights.

What do you when your keywords are stuck at page 4?

We all know that majority of the users don't go after the first 3 results and in a few cases they end up going to even next pages. But the websites ranking on anywhere less than top 3 doesn't get the potential traffic.

I was recently tracking a few keywords and I found my website on page 3. Is there some on-page thing I could actually do to improve the rankings or is it just backlinks?

And how do I make backlink without paying? Most of them I requested to publish a free article asked me above $50. They say that their website is DA20 and all, but is there someway through which I can rank a website with just quality content, if not, what are the link building strategies you follow to bring the keyword to #1.

What is White Hat SEO?

A SEO tactic, technique or method is considered as White Hat if it follows the followings:

If it conforms to the search engine's guidelines.

If it does not involves any deception.

It ensures that the content a search engine indexes and subsequently ranks is the same content a user will see.

It ensures that Web Page content should have been created for the users and not just for the search engines.

It ensures the good quality of the web pages.

It ensures the useful content available on the web pages.

Always follow a White Hat SEO tactic and don't try to fool your site visitors. Be honest and definitely you will get something more.

I Just Noticed That WWW Were Hidden from Chrome, Does It Mean We Should Use Non-WWW Now?

So I just notice this change when I updated my Chrome browser, and I started thinking this will surely change people behavior that in future more and more people will type domain without www. and slowly no one will be typing www. anymore.

My friend who co-own a website with me asked me if we should convert to non-www but I'm not sure about this because on a technical perspective I still don't like the idea of using naked domain, especially a lot of my website are using Cloudflare and they usually have some compatibility issues with non-www. But on SEO perspective if more people will just type the naked domain it means there'll be one extra redirection for them (from non-www to www).

What do you think?

SEO HELP for my Blog!

I’ve been blogging for about ten years, 5 of which under my current site, TheSparklingHippie.com. During these 5 years I’ve wrote a post or two about living Oklahoma, 100 or so Post’s about backpacking Australia, and two-dozen about living inspired creatively, which is what I’m building my coaching biz around. I just did a keyword ranking search and found that the majority of my keywords have to do with my hometown in Oklahoma or places in Australia. 🇦🇺 My Q is, are these travel posts tanking my opportunity to show up in google searches as a Creative Life Coach? Should I move unrelated content to a different site and domain? 🧐I want to build authority and expertise around creativity and spirituality but my site is showing up in the keyword ranks as a go-to for Oklahoma and Australia.

Ranking #1 (through my SERP Tracker, and manual check) for a kw with 18000 monthly volume - GSC says I'm #7

Hi,

As the title says I'm seeing a large discrepancy in my SERP tracker (and what I see in incognito) - #1 and what GSC is telling me - #7.

We're also only getting about 3% CTR which tells me that what I'm seeing is not what everyone else is seeing and #7 makes sense.

Anyone have tips on this or has seen it before?

Large, multi-location site is now outranked by smaller, single location companies. Is our site too broad?

I’m on the marketing team at a large law firm that has 5 location pages on its site. Each location used to rank well for our target keywords, but now it seems that we’re being out ranked by firms with one location, whose sites all essentially focus around variations of “[city] personal injury lawyer”.

We are building out more topically-relevant pages under each of our locations’ practice area pages to build up topical clusters, but I’m wondering—are we fighting an uphill battle because our site is so large and covers so many areas? Is there any way, short of building micro sites for each location, to combat this?

Thanks in advance!

JPG/PNG of Google map instead of iframe - allowed?

Google maps iframe take up 500kb of load and nearly 100 queries.

I remember years back Google said screenshots were not allowed. Then they said yes so long as the Google copyright writing at the bottom remained. Then they went off on the API thing. Then they started charging for the API.

So Question: What is the current SEO/Penalty for using screen shots of maps instead of and iframe or using the API?

Secondly, if it is allowed. How would you handle the SEO of the screen shot? eg. "Map of my street - google maps" or "map of my street". I notice no screen shots are in Google images for maps.

Ideas and knowledge appreciated!

Migrating All in One to Yoast Issue

Hi team,

I migrated my site from All in One to Yoast. The migration went smooth, but my EXISTING Articles don’t have the site name in the SEO title.
It should be: My SEO Title | My Site Name.
For example:
My old All in One Plugin SEO title: How to Set Up A Table | MyBrandName
The migrated Yoast SEO title: How to Set Up A Table

Even though my current Yoast setting for Posts and Pages is:
%%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%
my old existing posts still don’t have the %%sep%% %%sitename%% in the end of the SEO title.

I don’t want to go back to 700+ posts to add the Seperator + Site Name manually for each post. So how do I go about this?

Shouldn’t the Yoast setting for SEO title apply to existing posts after migration?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

How do I remove Google business listing appearing for some other business?

I have two different business names - 1 for B2B customers (don't have website) and another for B2C customers for which I have a website and it is SEO optimised. Let suppose one B2B business name starts with "E" and B2C business start name with "B". For better authenticity of physical location, I have mentioned the name of "B along with (E) on Google Business Listings (Google Places)

Now, if a Google search is done with business name "E", then my business listing (Googles places knowledge graph) with name "B" which is for B2C customers is appearing. But I dont want this listing to show up for "E" since I want to keep the two names separate. Is there any way to block my listing appearing for business "E"?

Is any alternate solution apart from removing "E" from business name which I have mentioned in Business listing for "B"

Can anyone recommend an SEO service for a single page on a multipage site?

Old website, lots of pages.

There's an issue with a few pages that I can't put my finger on. Not in top 100 at all despite original content, top domain, good page speed, responsive, no indexing issues etc.

Would like a second opinion.

Dazzled by the huge prices being offered online. Way beyond my means. Most seem to do whole websites. And so many of the results they offer seem pretty standard that I've covered.

I'm having struggle to increase dropped rankings after the June

My site was on the 1st page for the most important keyword ("airdrops") for more than 1 year.

My ratings was significantly decreased after June. Suddenly I was on 8th or 9th page. My site is airdropsmob.com.

I noticed that 2/3 of linking domains was spam domains which ends on .cf, .gq, .ml, .tk and .ga. After clicking on them sites were: "Warning: Suspected Phishing Site Ahead!". And if you continue there were redirection error.

I have disavow them. Then I have continue to write guest blog articles.

I was on the 3rd page for the short period of time. But again my ratings were decreasing. Now I'm again on 8th page.

Recently I noticed that non www and http was not 301 redirect. I have fixed that also.

I would really appreciate and help or advice what to do. It seems that what ever I have done in the last 2 months did not have any effect.

Accidently deleted blog post comments!

I have an ecommerce store and I accidentally deleted my website's blog posts comments. I can't believe it happened as I thought it was only deleting spam comments as i've approved all the good real comments. I use Shopify by the way.

I contacted Shopify and they said there is nothing I can do to recover them as I don't have a back up and I didn't save comments to a CSV.

I had probably around 80-100 comments (could be less) spread out across 100 posts, of course my best blog articles had the majority. My blog is one of the biggest assets of my website, as I am doing 100% organic traffic/sales. I've had my website since jan 2017.

My question is, how bad do you think this will affect my SEO, not to mention conversions?

I'm hoping this isn't as huge of a deal as I feel it is. I'm really upset with myself at this point for such a dumb move.

I'm thinking if my traffic doesnt decrease in the coming weeks, I'm in the clear. My biggest concern is the traffic. In all honesty, I don't think the majority of my blog comments were too keyword-friendly. And there wasn't much conversation, just people leaving a comment here and there. There wasn't a ton of comments on any one particular post either.

Any advice or thoughts would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Need help with JSON-LD preview

I don't know if this is relevant here but I had a question regarding how the SERP handles the JSON-LD data type "TechArticle". TLDR:"How to get a preview for data type "tech article" when implementing JSON-LD or Microdata?"

I am a student and I'm partly interested in SEO and web development technologies. I've been practicing the stuff for some time now and I've decided to make a small website which will detail specs, etc for different models of phones, laptops, etc. I learned from a MOZ guide that using JSON-LD or schema in a website helps. For the most of my pages I want to implement the "TechArticle" schema type. However I cannot find any preview of how it would look like on the SERP(not like it'll rank immediately or something but I'm just curious) The structured data testing tool and rich snippets tool don't give a preview for this type. Any suggestions of what tool might help? Or what the thing would look like on SERP?

15 or even 10 years ago there were various ways to get a human to reply to you.

I think the last way that worked was through ad words. You'd make an ad, then contact support and saying why is this crap content ranking better than me. Support would blah blah, you'd say what's the point in paying for ads and then they'd get someone from webspam or the like to get in touch with you.

I did this. Got a lot from the webspam person mainly about they were working on removing low content results from that category and thanks for bringing to their attention.

Sure enough 6 months later there was a purge and all was good again.

Tried the same again and kept getting robot replies.

Anyone know how to reach a human these days or is it completely AI powered these days?

How do you deal with ckeyword overlap for clients in same industry?

Hey everyone, this has been a more serious issue for us recently.

We just hit 60 clients on long term contracts and were starting to get serious overlap for certain companies and our prospects not so much clients are starting to have there concerns.

We have over 10 FT employees and ive tried creating different teams where we dont have clients in the same industry managed by the same team. But our sales division is getting more and more pushback from clients.

Anyone know if there should be seperate Meta info for pages that are duplicated through aspx?Displaytype URL's?

I am working with a client that has a lot of pages that are indexed as .aspx, .aspx?displaytype=fullsite, and .aspx?displaytype=mobile.

There are about 25-30 pages that have this same problem and from my understanding of SEMRush, AHrefs, and ScreamingFrog is that they are being regarded as duplicate content, title tags, and meta descriptions.

Should i create title tags, meta descriptions, and unique content for those individual pages, (.aspx, Fullsite, Mobile) or is there a way that I can add a no crawl or canonicalization of something to those longer URL's that make them not to be crawled?

Thanks!

Google is now predicting your search query based upon the SERP you are currently on.

Demo:

Google: American Eskimo vs Samoyed

Don't click anything.

Start to type "how big" in the search box.

It fills in suggestions based upon the page you are currently on.

Someone copied my post and ranked higher than mine, despite introducing tons of errors.

This actually happened on two articles. Their author reworded my articles in a hurry, slightly rearranged the content, and removed all the images, links, and sources leaving only bare text. On top of that, they introduced tons of spelling, grammar, and contextual problems. For example, in places where I had linked to another article, they simply removed the link and left a sentence like "read more about that here."

My articles have reasonable keyword densities and none of those errors, yet one of the two cloned articles landed just below mine on the front page of Google and the other actually landed on the front page where mine is on the second. On top of that, their site is only a few weeks old. This all goes completely against what I thought went into good SEO. I always strive to create quality content for readers, but apparently someone can just barf words onto a page and pass me in the rankings overnight.

Has anyone else had something this happen? What could explain it? Am I missing something?

Voice SEO

So, I'm just starting to get my feet wet on voice SEO, and I have a few questions. Our CMO seems to believe that it only equates to about 5% of our searches over-all, but we're Ecomm, and well over half of our sales source from mobile, so how valid is that?

Secondly, are there any good voice SEO tools? I can't figure out how to find specific keywords for that. I have SEMRush, and Moz but I'm perplexed at how to accumulate those terms.

Lastly, When optimizing, is there a large enough difference between a voice search and voice action to optimize for the 2 separately?

Any help would be great, thank you!

Beta tests a self managed service?

Hey everyone, I hate for this post to come off as if I’m asking for business so I won’t promote the company name I work for.

I am hoping though it may be SEO minded people helping one another.

We are just launching a beta program for a “self managed” link building program. The program allows you to customize how many links and what type you want. This could be useful for a partnership program or just clients with small budgets. We intend to expand it once we have some use cases.

This is a good way for companies that are looking for quality link building at a discounted rate to try out something new and give feed back.

WE DO WANT FEED BACK!

If this is something that interests anyone you can message me for the link to the sign up or just comment to ask questions!

Thank you all!

Changing product URLs - bad idea?

Trying to get some advice on a stalemate between my web developer and my SEO advisor.

I'm currently project managing a website migration for a travel company who sell cycling holidays. We wanted to move our old website from Joomla to Wordpress, as it is, but our developer said it would be better to build it in Wordpress from scratch, with most of the same structures and URLs and an updated, cleaner design.

We're now moving over much of the content to the new Wordpress site and I noticed that the web developer has changed the URLs slightly for many of the products (holidays) in the test website. He has built a new search filter for the products, and is building the product pages and URLs around this.

Initially, I thought the fact the URLs have changed was a red flag, and I have gone back to him to ask him if he can maintain all current URLs but he has said that he genuinely thinks the new structure will be much better as it makes much more sense in relation to the structure of the website (I do agree but not sure from an SEO pov). He said he will add redirects for all of the old URLs.

For example:

Current URL (old website): /cycling-holidays/italy-6-day-mountain-tour

His proposed change (new website): /cycling-holidays/italy/mountain-tours/6-day-mountain-tour

The proposed change makes way more sense in terms of a new breadcrumb structure he has built but an SEO advisor I know said that it's better to maintain all of the URLs as they were when migrating. The majority of our sales and revenue comes via Organic Search so it's really important for us not to lose rankings when migrating.

TLDR: Is it better to maintain all URLs when migrating a site with high rankings even if changing them makes more sense for UX and site structure?

How did 'hobbyhelp dot com' do this in just 12 months?

Been eyeing this one affiliate site's strategies lately (hobbyhelp).

It was obviously an old, aged domain from 2001 that sat for decades doing nothing but they purchased it just last year. Started pushing content around 12 months ago.

It's already ranking 1st page for some extremely competitive product keywords and has an Ahref's rank of 250k.

Looks like it might be a massive PBN?

Looks shady as shit but they're obviously flying under Google's radar with this one. Thoughts?

Noob Here. Multiple pieces of content vs one long piece and long tail vs short tail keywords.

I am going try making a content site based around cartooning. I have been doing some basic keyword searches using google keyword planner and using google search suggestions. I see that "how to draw a cartoon dog" gets a range of 1k - 10k monthy searches. The google search suggestion adds the words "easy" and one that says "easy step by step". When I put those into keyword planner the monthly searches are "how to draw a cartoon dog easy" (10 - 100) and "how to draw a cartoon dog easy step by step" (1 - 10). I'm not sure if I should bother trying to target those long tails. Maybe I should since the short tail is included? Not sure how this works.

I'm also wondering if I should do multiple short pieces of content or long pieces. I could make a video and blog post that would cover making a cartoon dog in multiple styles (basic, different eyes, different poses, puppy/chibi vs adult, different breeds, etc). The other option is to cover all those over multiple pieces of content. Splitting it up would be helpful when trying to be consistent with posting content. Is one better than the other? How often does content need to be posted? I was thinking 2 times a week but maybe that's not enough?

My strategy is to find the most searched keywords related to cartooning, make custom content for those keywords with a youtube video, a blog post with the video embedded in it, and make social accounts that announce the new content (facebook, insta, twitter, any others?)

I understand this is a long game thing so I was hoping to dedicate a year to this and see where it ends up. I was hoping that once there is traffic I could use adsense and affiliate marketing for stuff like art supplies, art books, etc.

Looking for any advice or if this even sounds like a decent plan. Major noob here.

Wordpress Duplicate Title Error

Have a weird error where a blog hosted on WordPress is rendering multiple pages for one article. So essentially, the blog is being posted correctly at URL/year/month/day/title and solely the heading/image being rendered at URL/tag/year/month/day/title.

We can't figure out why this would be happening, doesn't appear to be a setting in WordPress but I could be wrong. I am using semrush, which initially brought our attention to the issue and strongly advised deleting the article.

What to do with a very popular but slightly irrelevant page?

A site I am doing SEO for built a tool years ago that still drives a lot of traffic to our site (22% of all traffic comes from this one page, the next best landing page which we actively try to optimise and promote accounts for 6% for comparison).

Despite not being touched for years it ranks very well for some high volume keywords and I can't help but feel there's an opportunity there somehow. It isn't a tool that drives people to use our service, more just a very useful tool in general.

SEO In 2019

Hello Guys,

Today I am gonna show you 2 most powerful strategies that you can use in 2019 if you want to increase your organic traffic.
Let's start with the no 1

  1. Update old content regularly, Let's say you are ranking on this keyword "BEST POWER BANKS" on page 3rd of Google, but your content is outdated and provides no value to a user then here's a good news for you just add more words to the content use visualisations, do interlinking and add FAQ's
  2. Try to rank on Low Competitive keyword with High Search volume in this way you can target the most specific amount of traffic towards your store or site.

In my experience, these are the powerful methods which I have used in order to get quality traffic.
Let me know what is the best method for you.

How does Google index "dynamically built pages?"

I've built websites where I had to build out every page in HTML/CSS and all of the page files were in a directory. I've also built websites using ruby that uses a template file for a post and then pulls data from a model to fill in the post.

So in the latter example you have a page like domain/1, the one gets passed as a parameter to the server, the server finds the corresponding model in the database and then populates the page template with that data. If I did this with a static site I would have to have a 1.html file somewhere in my domain folder.

How does google find all of my pages when my website it built this way?

Watching a site using backlinks and PBN

So, a site has suddenly popped into all the serps in a niche over the past few months. Content is original and good.

Our content is better.

They are outranking.

I did a standard banklink search and found little. Then did a PBN backlink search and there they all were.

URL's are spread out in everything from non-relevant to relevant sites.

Some backdate the posts .... so let's say they posted in 2019 but the blog with the backlink is wayyy back in 2016....

Some of the backlink content is ridiculously empty, 5 or 6 lines. Typical low content.

But, here they are at the top of Google out of nowhere.

I know most people on here will say wait until they get hit by Google updates .... but that's not happening.

Over the past 10 or so years I've seen sites do this and they consistently stay on top of the rankings.

So at this stage we are seriously thinking of just throwing in the "Content is King" mantra and while still upping the content just paying for PBN links.

What's the best way to approach this? Use just one test URL or go all in?

Need some serious telling off or disuasion or go for it advice.

Google My Business Question: Is Event Calendar Integration Possible?

Hello,

I've been currently trying to update/fix my companies Google My Business page and one issue I'm running into is the events tab that shows.

We have events running everyday and a calendar posted on our website, but the only event that actually shows is a Meetup event that reoccurs every Tuesday for a group that meets at our shop.

That Tuesday event is all well and fine, but it's currently the only event that shows if you Google search us. For obvious reasons we don't want only that showing, but I've yet to find a way to show all of our daily events on our page.

I know that Google uses accepted Third-party websites and displays them on your page, but is there a way to upload our actual event calendar to show?

Is there a work around possible that you all have found? I don't want to go so far as to make a Meetup account for our shop, just so that it shows more than the current Tuesday event, but that is an option.

Let me know if you have found something or have any insight on the matter!

Thank you

Company Name vs Domain Name

Sorry if this is not the correct sub, but I think it applies? I am starting a natural soap line and want to call my company Lathr. This domain is for sale for $2400 However there is another company selling soaps, shampoos, body lotions, lip balms etc who owns lather . com. Should I just try to figure out another name for my company is this going to cause SEO problems? Confused and don't want to make an expensive mistake? Any advice would be really appreciated.

What is the best tool for hyper local kw tracking?

I am trying to find a tool that more accurately shows keyword rank from a zip code level. I need to support a client with multiple locations in one city and multiple cities in several countries. I've currently tried using semrush at the zip code level, and it doesn't seem anywhere close to accurate. I know this because I've had someone cross check for me in the city in question and the kw the client was showing up at #7 in the map pack is not even ranking in the tool. I know it is near impossible to find something that is going to be as accurate as I would like since local rankings can fluctuate by walking a single block, but hoping to find something at least better than what I have.

Wordpress Feature Images

We have a 17 Week series coming up (one post per week) and I was wondering if it is better to use the same image and alt title as the feature image or to generate 17 image with Week 1 - 17 added, using unique alt tags on all 17 images and uploading a new one each week

How much do these images help SEO anyway?

If I use the wrong rel=canonical URL how long does it take to expire?

I have a URL like:

https://example.com#foo

(it's a react app with anchor URLs)

Unfortunately, I used the wrong rel=canonical URL. Does it have to expire? How long until it expires?

Dealing with a site that effectively scrapes and reworks your content and then pushes you out of news?

We noticed another "established" site taking stories we publish (which are niche takes on big subjects), stripping out references to our site and some of our language, and then publishing the result a day later and pushing us out of top stories.

We know it's not just coincidence. They use the same quotes we do, the same references, and it always comes a day after our initial publish date from the same author (who doesn't exist).

I swear I saw one piece come out in clearly poorly scraped shape with a fake author name, only for it to update right after cleaned up and humanized with a new person with a twitter account and everything.

Is there really anything I can do? They change it up enough to not get caught by copyscape or anything, but they do pull our exclusive information (-"X" said Y- from our original reporting becomes -Y agreed/disagreed.- in theirs).

I have a N00b level question about backlinks

I'm not in seo, but was just wondering about a hypothetical scenario ... If I want to rank for keyword 'abc' and I manage to get maybe around 500 backlinks with abc as the anchor text. These would be from different domains but the click through traffic would be next to nothing. Would this help me rank for keyword abc? If so, would it be significant?

Recommended site that provides SEO advice/services based on solid data?

I'm fairly new to the SEO game and am constantly trying to learn as much as possible. However, the deeper I look, the more I'm realizing this industry is just a bunch of people making guesses.

I realize there's no one other than Google that truly knows how the Google Search algorithm works. But given enough data and some AI, someone should surely be able to offer proven advice on what to do do.

I'm an automation engineer with a little experience with machine learning. If I'm thinking of this, there's gotta be someone out there that's done this, right?

I'd love to see a company run actual experiments based on real data and offer real, actionable advice.

E-commerce site link question

Our site has filters on the side so users can filter down our products, when a filter is applied then the URL changes. For example, when the filter for 4K video is selected:

/cameras/mirrorless-camera/canon-mirrorless/

changes to

/cameras/mirrorless-camera/canon-mirrorless/?pi=1&filter=videoresolution-csc:4k

Sometimes, the second link (with the filter applied) is linked to from our blog and so is getting indexed. Am I right in thinking it is damaging to our SEO if these types of pages are indexed?

If so, what would be the best way to deal with this? Would it be a canonical tag? (but would this stop the page getting indexed?)

As you can tell I'm an SEO newbie so any help would be greatly appreciated!
