Advice to a newbie to SEO: How to practice SEO in blog articles?

For ten years, I was a curriculum writer and academic editor, but then fell into educational consulting and working alongside many small business owners with dyslexia who needed written content for their websites and liked my writing style. They would provide me with SEO keywords and I would write articles for them. I never had a chance to see officially how they were determining these keywords nor what the outcomes were for my articles.

I am wanting to work on my SEO skills more and completed the Google Analytics certificate course. I started WordPress to have a portfolio and practice area. I can churn out articles pretty quickly and am getting a lot of views, likes, and follows. But as an analytical person who likes structure, I want to get better at identifying which keywords, headlines, etc will attract more views.

I used the free trial of SEMrush and checked out Neil Patel. Any other suggestions for free tools to use to experiment with for blog posts?
