Hello,
A local business that I run SEO for has had several news stories created on them, as well as press releases that I have created/submitted to wires. I want to republish the same articles onto my website in a "news" tab.
a couple notes/questions:
- Does republishing duplicate content that appears on another site first have any negative SEO implications? I know it won't help SEO, but as long as i attribute the article to the original source it shouldn't hurt me right? From my understanding, google will just skip the content since it appeared originally on a different, higher authority site.
- Do I need permission from the local news station that originally posted the story?
- What is best practice for attributing the article source? I am thinking about posting at the end of the article "Article originally appeared on [news station anchor text with link to original story]
this is not an SEO play, but a credibility/branding play - just want to make sure there are no SEO implications and make sure I follow best practices.
