How do you get your first job at SEO?

Hello to all, I am glad to see so many interesting discussions about SEO. I’m also glad that I found so many experts in one place. I have few questions here and I will be happy if you share any kind of recommendation/advice or experience with me. 😊

I graduated from a digital marketing academy here in my country and I worked in a SaaS company that sells ERP systems. For company needs I started implementing basic on-page/technical techniques I decided to learn and go deeper with SEO. After months of working, I've seen that SEO can be understood only through experience and working on projects. I have read Beginner's Guide from Moz (and note down everything in word.doc), also following Chase Reiner, Nathan Gotch, Search Engine Land, Backlinko, and every resource on the Internet for SEO. I am spending 8 hours a day learning SEO and I am looking for good training or chance to prove knowledge.

Currently, I don't have a job. I have applied to 20 companies that are looking for SEO (agencies and in-house), I've had few interviews, but nothing happens (maybe for my lack of experience or maybe its not my fault) I didn't hear any feedback from them. But, you must start from somewhere, right?

My questions here are:

1. How to find companies that are willing to spend their internal resources and time to teach me how to do SEO? (entry-level/internship)
2. What kind of tasks and job responsibilities entry-level SEO do? (besides Moz's junior task list) 3. Do I need to create my own portfolio?
4. Should I apply in SEO agencies for internship? (if they do not have open positions)

I will be glad if you share your experiences here.
Thank you!
