Hey, I'm hoping to find some clarity, please do help out with any advice if you can.
I run a Wordpress dot org site with about 150 long-form posts. All of those have the URL structure: domain dot com/year/month/post_title
I'm thinking of changing it to domain/category/post_title or domain/post_title. All content is informational evergreen content.
This is something I neglected when I set up the site 2 years ago, I think that was a big mistake.
Should I change the URL structure or is it not worth doing it now? Here are some (hopefully) relevant details:
About 15 articles rank in the top 3 SERPs which drive the majority of the traffic. About 50-100 have low SERP positions but do drive some organic traffic. Many of my articles have high volume competitive keywords and those posts just won't move up the SERPS, though I do get backlinks for some of them without my involvement.
I've noticed that I repeatedly go back to the old articles and improve them as they are research-based articles. However, they aren't news coverage research articles where the month and year make sense in the URL. This is not a side hustle for me and I see myself maintaining and writing on it for another 10 years at least.
I don't run any shop on the site where I am expecting the article to convert readers into buyers. Although, there will be a shop in the future.
