SEO with little text and no e-commerce functions

So I'm working with a major multinational client who uses their website more as an information page as their products are not really the type one would purchase from a website.

The focus has been on content marketing for mainly their search engine channels, but as of late, a revamp of their homepages throughout the world, trying to use better and more interactive content.

Most of the SEO I know of and most of the info/guides I have seen are about keywords and long text. Basically long text wouldn't work for this type of company or product, just many images, graphics, videos, etc.

So my question is, how to get the page to rank higher on Google? What other factors play into SEO that don't involve keywords and backlinks? As well, do the popularity of their social media accounts play into any of this?

If content has a common thread, meaning something similar between pieces, does that mean it will rank higher?
