Pitching to a client with an online clothing store but curious about one thing.
I've done an extensive amount of keyword research on other competitors and unsurprisingly, they're huge retailers.
Now, given that backlinks to product pages don't come easy, many of the most popular keywords these retailers rank for are 'low competition'.
Looking at the top 100 positions in the SERP's for all these popular keyphrases reveals that not one of them is a single, small or local business. All of them are huge, authoritative sites (or well known brands).
I'm aware that trying to play ball with the big guys isn't ideal for my time management, but does anyone actually have any experience where they managed to break in a small or local website amongst a huge crowd like this?
