Really old list of URL's in a .htaccess - is it safe to kill them off?

I am working on a site that has about 300+ 301's in the .htaccess file

Some of them are ancient and likely provide zero SEO value.

How do I know or "check" if I am removing a potentially great 301'd link - or would you just leave it to be safe?
