Hi everyone,
The small business I work for has a simple website that gets organic search engine traffic. My boss pays web.com to do our SEO, but I don't think they've been doing anything. I recently took over web development and marketing, and our WordPress site hasn't been updated in ages. It's running off of a 5 year old version of the Salient theme.
I want to upgrade WordPress and get the new Salient theme, but when I update it the whole site just shows code on the homepage.
My question is: Can I refresh and redesign our website without negatively affecting SEO? My boss is weary, since he hired someone to update his site 5 years ago and it took a year for us to get search engine hits again after he changed everything.
I want to update the site, and I can port over as much code as I can, but I don't want to ruin our search engine leads. I have basic programming knowledge (Python for data science), but web development and SEO are new to me. I'm currently taking some basic Udemy classes on digital marketing strategy and WordPress.
Any guidance, tutorials, relevant links or readings would be greatly appreciated! Have a good one!
