I'm a software developer more than an SEO, but kind of stumbled onto a formula for finding expiring domains that are "good".
So I have a collection of scripts that do the following:
-
Identify a search topic "security software"
-
Build out a list of keywords on that topic (500-700)
-
Scrape the SERPs for all those keywords and record the domains (2,000-20,000 domains, this varies a lot by topic)
-
Track the domains and if one expires buy it, redirect it to wherever makes sense.
This has a few big advantages over trying to go directly to a domain drop service, namely:
-
It's very difficult to sort out what domains are ranking for what terms from the drop service (they will literally just give you a list of a 100,000 domains)
-
By looking for domains that Google already considers to be good it avoids a huge chunk of the weirdness and fraud associated with buying a random domain (aka fake/bad backlinks)
And while that's cool, I'm not sure it's enough value to make a full-blown SaaS out of. The biggest issues are really that not that many domains are dropped that are ranking (maybe 0.5% annually), but when you do get one it does tend to come with 25+ good backlinks.
Summing up: is this something you'd find useful? If I was to make it into a SaaS is there anything to help make it better?
