Best way to write SEO friendly articles

Hi All

I have started a new website as my second project. This is a product review site. So There is 2 ways i can write product reviews. Lets take shampoo as example

  1. I can write article about each product with optimized for product and 1000 words. for example
    1. Article 1 - Dove - dry hair shampoo
    2. Article 2 - Dove- hairfall shampoo
    3. Article 3 - H&D - hairfall shampoo
    4. Article 4 - H&D - colored hair shampoo
  2. I can write article based on each brand with optimized for different keywords with 3000+ words ex
    1. Article 1 - Dov shampoo(includes hairfall ,dry hair in different section in same article)
    2. Article 2 - H&D shampoo (includes hairfall, colored hair in different section in same article)

What would be the best SEO friendly way to write these articles. It would be great if someone can help me with this.

Thanks

I'm happy that my site is doing well. The traffic as nearly jumped to double of what it was out of nowhere. I would like to know how do I check which posts are getting the traffic? Which ones are ranking at the top spots? I have google analytics and rank tracker tools currently

Outdated page reappears and is not being removed by outdated content.

I deleted an account on a photo site about a year ago. A search page from that site showed up on my Google search and it had a lot of images that I did not want my photos to be associated with. Originally, all links (including the search page link) were removed by the outdated content tool after I deleted the account.

After a few months the search page reappeared on the image search with a different photo (there is no visible web result) and now outdated content denies it every time I submit it. The photo site says that they have removed every last trace of my account. The page has my last name so I guess that could be what keeps it coming back, but it ranks higher than some of my images. I’ve sent feedback to google but it hasn‘t helped that much.

Is there any way to get rid of it?

Search Console Product Structured Data Disappeared

Have noticed a decline in rankings over the past week or two. As we were investigating we discovered that 100 products have virtually disappeared from the Structured Data after being marked as Products.

Anyone have any insight into not only what happened but also how to resolve?

strong business/marketing knowledge but mediocre/weak SEO skill vs weak business marketing/knowledge but strong raw SEO skills - which is better

from a hiring manager's perspective at a company looking to hire an SEO, if they had to choose between the two, would they rather go with someone who possesses a strong general business/marketing knowledge who has the ability to pitch to the c suite, forecast with revenue, very articulate but has mediocre/weak SEO skills or someone who is less knowledgeable in business/marketing, a bit of an introvert, but has very strong raw skills especially with technical SEO?

Updates in SEO tactics

I've never bothered to think about SEO before, but recently I started a website and although the content itself is awesome (I think), I might have to think about how to reach a decent number of people.

So that's when I started to read up on SEO.

As far as I've understand things changed a lot over the years. 15 years ago it was easy to 'game' the system by just having a lot of backlinks everywhere for example. Ranging from forum signatures to 1 page blogs etc. Nowadays that doesn't work anymore. Same goes for keyword stuffing and on-page optimiziation that lost value.

Personally I am glad with these developments. One, because I think it will improve the quality of the web as a whole. And two because it is not even fun to start with these tactics to rank your site.

The idea that I get is that it is way more about content nowadays. Can anybody confirm? And also what is now the main focus of SEO (apart from content and optimized pages)?

Is it still simply outreach to high authority sites?

Trying to buy a Domain for my Website

Hi Everyone! Please help my curiosity.

I am setting up a photograhy collaboration platform for our small team in Australia and was looking to buying a domain.

The domain is short, only xxxxxxxx.com (8 letters) and potentially, a popular search term. It was up for sale for only USD 9.99 per year (89.99 for 5 yrs) till yesterday but I had no funds. I managed some money today but the domain is not available.

It is not parked, doesn't have an IP redirect assigned and is locked by EPP for "clientTransfer" from Registrar which is US based. Interestingly, Archive.org wayback machine shows there was a parking website until before 2016/2017 and then no history after that, it was removed.

Please someone tell me how long before the EPP lock is removed ? Will I be able to buy it again?

What are the most important TLD's for SEO in 2018?

AFIK they are:

  • .com
  • .net
  • .org
  • .info

Read it before somewhere else, but can't remember where. What I read mentioned that when you acquire a domain you should purchase at least these 4 TLD's and point them to the main website, this to give out a strong SEO signal.

Updating page content drops rank/traffic?

So I have a webpage that is getting a lot of traffic from google. So I thought I would update and add more pertinent content so that it would do even better. But a few days after I made the changes, I observed a drop in traffic. The title is the same, and the upper half of my article is the same; I just improved on the bottom half of the article. Getting impressions for an unexpected keyword - should I optimize for that?

Wordpress and Google Search Console: Which URL should I claim in SC?

I just created a website using Wordpress. I am on the "Personal" plan for now, so there are no SEO features or plugins available, except for adding the Search Console meta tag to get my website verified.

I registered a new domain and under the domains tab in Wordpress, my primary domain is "r/https://website.ca" and the following links will redirect to that domain:

"r/http://website.ca"

"r/http://www.website.ca"

"r/https://www.website.ca"

"website.ca"

My question is: How do I make sure that Google treats all of the above links to be the same as "r/https://website.ca" with Wordpress? I do not want the redirected links to compete in search rankings with my primary domain.

Does Wordpress automatically create canonicalization for the other links? Does it use 301 redirect? Or does it do nothing at all and I have to manually set it up somehow? Do I claim each link separately as a property in Search Console or should I claim only the desired primary domain?

I'm fairly new to SEO, and I have just received training on technical terms and the basics. Thanks for your help guys :)

Should I remove AggregateRating schema markup?

I have implemented an AggregateRating schema on my website.

I have a specific products/projects on the website and only I'm the only one who is giving the rates. Still cannot decide if I should enable visitors to rate.

For that products searches I'm on the front page. Usually in the first 5 results. I'm trying to rate that products honestly, so lots of them have 2 stars. Competitors do not have AggregateRating implemented, and I'm worried that I'm not getting clicks for that not so good rated products.

Changing Essays to Blog posts on the site

So I started messing with it and have taken 2 essays and made them into already published blogs. I tried to schedule them in the future, and it simply yielded a 404 error.

2 questions, if you don't mind... 1, I've been randomly choosing a previous date and having it publish then (obviously it publishes immediately, but it says published on Dec 28, 2016, for example. Is that a problem? And 2, even if I put 301 and scheduled it for a later date, on something that has yet to publish as a blog, would I get a duplicate content penalty as it was once published and indexed by the search engines when it was an essay?

I'm using the exact same URLs for all of them and am only doing this to clean up my landing page from the 49 drop down essays that scroll down the page when you hit the essays button on the menu.

Crucial SEO/Analytics question that I need solved asap, please help

Ok, so here's the deal. I want to know if the customers who purchased my products on my e-commerce site actually'searched' a non-branded term, landed on the product page, and successfully converted. I have a bunch of recent new customers who have purchased a product but I have NO IDEA if they actually went through that ideal 'search' process. I mean they all could have just went directly into my site URL because they heard of my brand via word of mouth or just could just have searched my brand name (again because they have heard via word of mouth).

In order to see if my SEO organic strategy is working, I need to know if these customers who are converting actually landed on the page through a NON-BRANDED keyword search. How would I go about finding this out?

[ELI5] Difference between 301 and 308 redirect?

I tried researching about it and can’t seem to grasp the concept of what really differs between these. According to Wikipedia: “The request and all future requests should be repeated using another URI. 307 and 308 parallel the behaviors of 302 and 301, but do not allow the HTTP method to change. How to search for blogs. Anything besides obvious "blog" in search query?

Guys, hi

As title says i wonder what search "terms" do you use to find blogs (any blogs, not only the once that accept guest posts).

Anything besides obvious "blog"?

Basically we need to research list of San Francisco related travel blogs. When i tried searching "San Francisco attractions" - majority of sites are tour operators, aggregators, marketplaces, etc. "San Francisco attractions blog" works much better. Wonder what other terms like this can be used.

Lost a bunch of backlinks, how to recover ranking?

Hello,

The site of a friend had been losing rank on the search results for a while.

I got a trial version of Ahrefs and investigated the issue. He used to give some of his articles to another site, for a while, in return they were posting the link of the source of his original post on each one and links to other articles revelant to the articles.

On December he had a fight with them and on January/February of 2018 they removed all his articles from the site. That resulted on a massive lost of backlinks and his ranking has plummered and recovery looks really far away.

I don't know how to tackle tis issue as it looks stupid to me from the side of google. Why someone removing all my articles from their site, results on me tanking the ranks? Would the site recover? How to work on fixing that?

Facebook is suddenly outranking branded queries, and the ranking page is not Home.

Hi, when you look up our client's name, his Facebook page appears first, and then his website appears second (which is not the norm) and the first page of the site is a deep interior page (doctor credentials).

I checked to see if Home had been Noindexed, or was a 404, and then did a site: search and saw that Home appears first there, meaning it has the most "power" but it's not on the first page of search.

Is it even worth to push for SEO in this niche?

Hi!

This may not entirely relate to typical, "lifestyle" blogging, but it's blog related nonetheless.

Quick Question about keywords in City/Geographical names and their abbreviations

Many of my SEO clients are based geographically in the same city, but most residents of the city abbreviate the name of it in terms of how they talk and use Google search for anything in the city (similar to 'Indianapolis' and 'Indy'). If the search volume for both keywords is about the same, should I be using both abbreviation and the actual name of the city or is it best to just choose one or the other?

Been in Google Sandbox for over six months. Should I be worried?

I launched my domain over six months ago and have been in the sandbox since day one. I have read a lot of research stating domains are normally out of the sandbox between three to six months, and most websites with competitive keywords are in the box for six months.

I always update my site at least twice a week with new articles with useful information and news in my niche. The domain is active.

Should I be worried about my domain for being in the sandbox longer than six months?

Help - I have no idea what keywords should be my SEO person's focus

Hi all,

My friend has a few dental clinics (opened a few months ago) and I help him with business decisions. We both understand there is a lot of value in SEO. But he is very concerned he is getting value from his marketing dollars.

Our city is broken into communities with 10K to 25K people in each. The clinics are located far enough apart that they are 2-3 communities away from each other. Each community might have 1-2 other clinics max.

The SEO person recommended to us says we should SEO for keywords for all the communities surrounding us "Dentist in <community>". But my perspective is that we would organically get to the first page of these sorts of searches by just editing the website to include those keywords (or making a quick landing page).

I was thinking the SEO firm needs to focus on the bigger value keywords (eg. "Dentist in <city>", "Implants in <city>"). Those would take actual SEO effort.

I don't want to pay monthly for SEO that would have happened anyway. What are your thoughts?

Is Duplicate Metas A Problem?

Hi all.

I've just noticed that all my meta descriptions on Google are the same for every page.

I have a little sign up box so the first line of content Google is picking up is always the "join the newsletter" line in the metas.

Is this a problem? That sign up form converts really well for me so I'd like to keep it if that is possible.

(I also make sure to fill out the metas myself (with my keywords) but apparently Google is not picking that up).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Easiest way to add the same location for all events listed on Search Console?

Hello everyone,

I work for five live music venues that each use a separate Squarespace website, each live music performance is listed in an events page. I just recently got a bunch of emails from Google Search Console asking me to fix the events mark up because Google isn't indexing the event locations for each of the events because the location isn't listed in any of the events because they never needed to be.

What's the easiest way to get Google to index the address? I added the address of the venues to their footers and tried to use their data highlighter to tag that as the address but it didn't seem to work.

I assume there might be limitations because of Squarespace? I know you when you create an event on SS you can set a location to it, will that be the only way for Google to index it?

Thanks very much for your help!

SEO images and copyright notice

Greetings,

I'm editing my images in photo-editing software and noticed that I can add a "copyright notice" to it.

However, I'd like to let people "steal" my images, use them on their web, and still have the benefit of having my image being completely filled with my information, an url to the site, etc., so as to hopefully gain some kind of reference and linking towards my own page.

Is that possible?

Which leads me to this question : Should you add Copyright Notices on your image if you wish to benefit from other people posting your image, which is fully optimized with various information, captions, alt-text, etc. ?

Law Firm SEO Strategy?

I'm here because I need guidance from a trustworthy SEO practitioner and I don't know how to evaluate agencies (My brother had a bad experience) and freelancers. I figure you fine folks who contribute to this subreddit are on top of things or may be able to put me in touch with someone who is.

Long story short, the partners at my law firm put me in charge of the brand redesign (new name, new website, new domain, etc.). The only requirement was that I use a certain developer (with limited SEO experience) to design and build the website. We published the new website yesterday. I've finally convinced them that the site needs to be SEO optimized (I know, sub-optimal timing). I'm hoping I can find someone here that that can a) look at the website and diagnose its onpage SEO health, b) coach me on or lead an effort to optimize its offpage SEO.

One unique advantage we have is that we have extremely close relationships with several major online publishers (Fox News, National Review) and law schools in which we are planning to get some earned media.

Any advice is welcome and much appreciated.

Thank you.

Link building: some new words for beginners

Actual RageRank. Google`s value for your page.

Anchor text. The text of link which is usually placed between two tags: <a> and </a>. All in all, it becomes a clickable text that leads to the link you want.

Backlink profile. Links from external web resources that leads to your website.

Conversion. A process when a user performs a certain action that is valuable to you as a creator of a website.

CTR. Click Through Rate - the number of times your listing is clicked upon (clicks) divided by the number of times it’s shown, calculated as a percentage.

Deep link ratio. Divide the number of links that go to your subpages into the number of links to your home page. External links. Links that go from your site to someone else’s site.

Footer links. They usually appear on the top of the site, usually on every page. These were originally so abused that many SEOs now try to avoid them.

Guest posting. One of the methods of building links and creating new content. The whole idea is to ask external bloggers to raise awareness of your brand/business.

Ranking for local keywords outside cities/big neighborhoods? Help

Let's say I own a plumbing business in the suburbs (somewhere 15-20 miles away from New York City), like a specific county where I only serve certain small towns located in that county. Then I'm assuming, I will be targeting keywords like "plumbing [insert town name here]" or "plumbing [insert county name here]". However, none of them have any search volume. "plumbing [insert major city name here]" like nyc is obviously where the volume is at because it's a big city. so for a local business that only serves a specific county within a state like suburban towns, what would be the target keywords to rank for local-wise when none of them have any volume? like i wouldnt want my business ranking for "plumbing manhattan" if my business is located 20 miles away in New Jersey and I only serve one or multiple countries within the state. problem is, no volume.

Canonical links of location based services to single service page

Trying to gather an opinion. Multilocation company is getting a full rewrite - pulling them out of their subdomains by location. I am toying around with the idea that I will provide a landing page for each service right behind the tld, as well as, have a service page for each unique service the company provides behind the location (/business-type/location/service) which will provide a bit more in-depth info about the service at the unique location. I have unique pictures and widgets for each location, although I think the text will only slightly differ. I'm thinking canonicalize these location service pages to the base service page, talk about the service in dept on the base service page, and provide links to the location specific service pages from the base service page. Question about my DIY-built-wizard and how Google will handle it

I'll explain this as best as I can. I'm creating some kind of a wizard for my website. I ask my audience 3 multiple choice questions using gravity forms with conditional logic. Based on their answers I lead them to a specific page with my advice. If you give different answers, you will land on a different page. The advice I give is slightly different on each page, but there's also some overlap. There are 48 different outcomes so I will create 48 unique pages.

My question: How should I approach this SEO-wise? The content on the pages I make are the result of your anwers in the wizard. If one of the pages will rank high in Google there's a big possible issue. When people click it, it will be very random. They will land on a page that is 'tailor-made' for someone else. Not for them.

I could tell Google not to index the pages, but I guess that would hurt my traffic. There's a lot of valuable content on those pages.

I would very appreciate all your insights on this :)

I added around 80% more content to my page and now it doesn't rank after 4 days. Is this normal?

I had a page which ranked around 12th for a search term. So I decided to give it an overhaul and add a lot more value to people searching. It's now ranked outside the top 100 unless I google specifically for that page (so I know Google has crawled it). Is this normal?

Thanks
