Hi, I'm in a new position at a B2B information provider. I don't have much experience with SEO or Google Analytics, but I know the basics.
I just got access to the reports and I was surprised to see that overall user sessions decreased by 33% from May to September (A decline of 85,000 users). In looking at the sources, all were down significantly, with the biggest decline coming from direct traffic (-44%, - 32,000 users). The decline was most significant from July to September.
I focused on direct traffic and looked at the landing pages this traffic started at. Not surprisingly, most went to the home page. However, that traffic held up pretty well during this period of decline. Direct traffic to the home page only declined by 6% from May to September (about 500 total users). Most of the decline is spread across the internal pages. I'm seeing dozens of pages where user sessions from direct traffic declined by anywhere from 85% to 98%+.
I checked and I can still navigate to those pages. Is this possibly an issue with the Google analytics code not appearing correctly on these pages? This behavior just doesn't seem logical. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
