New to SEO- made some changes that were supposed to help but aren't- or is that just a fluctuation?

Hey, I'm new to SEO so I'm not familiar with the thousands of different factors that could impact a website.

My page got to page 2 on Google search but kind of plateau'd there so I looked up some SEO things to try and got some apps to appraise what I could do to improve. The three things I found I could go for were:

  1. Getting an SSL

  2. Getting hits from "long tail keywords"

  3. Expanding my landing page with more words

  4. Turning on the "Cornsterstone" button on my Wordpress SEO plugin

So

  1. Did that, got a $75 SSL from my provider

  2. Added a lot of long tail keywords to the meta tags via my wordpress app, keyword type = "name", type = "keyword"

  3. Expanded my landing page with a wall of text. I put in some keywords but it's very much just a long list of content for the site that mirrored the meta tags. I also added some additional pages specific for that content.

  4. Turned on the Cornerstone button on my Wordpress SEO plugin

My page was sitting around 15 two days before I tried to do it, after I did it my page is sitting in the later 3rd page and earlier 4th page instead of mid 2nd page. I'm worried that the wall of text I added may have screwed with the algorithm or that the meta tags I added were too many, or if there was too little text for my site to be correctly marked as "Cornerstone"- it's just a page with an app on it, the text is superfluous though it describes content in the app.

Seems like my page is falling behind a little bit every day, up until the page it was gaining but plateauing. Should I switch it back or is that a normal fluctation, based on y'alls experience with SEO?
