Wordpress - Yoast SEO - Why is Indexing defaulted to "No" for posts? Should it be?

New to SEO...I have a Wordpress site with a blog section that I'm trying to add more content to.

Today I was doing a URL inspection on Search Console and it told me post wasn't being indexed because there was a 'Noindex' detected in the robots meta tag.

After a bunch of digging I found a blog post about an advanced setting in Yoast that's defaulting all of my posts to not index.

Question(s) 1: Don't I want them to index? Why wouldn't I want search engines to show my posts in search results? Is there something I'm overlooking?

Question 2: Does anyone know how I set the default in Yoast to "Yes" for my blog posts?
