Is my agency on the wrong side, or am I ?

Hello, Reddit,

First of all, the information that goes through all this sub and many others related are very, VERY useful and I am greatful for the sharing there is around, thus, I have to thank you all for this.

So, recently (4 months) I've been promoted to Digital Specialist/Architect inside a big corporation. Our company has multiple dealerships for a certain auto group and also importer&dealer for more luxurious brands. The thing is, we're pretty behind within this digital era and with a little project that I invented and coordinated its dev, I stepped forward and got promoted to guide this company through digital transformation.

Now, my main responsabilites are developing digital alternatives for certain processes and work with 3 digital marketing agencies for the online content, promoting and social media marketing.

So, to create the picture i have to explain our "little" business a bit. We are the subsidiary of a greater company(that is beyond our borders) and they have a department of dev apps. They have created our websites and bought the domains about 20 years ago. These websites that are standard and they are not only for our country but for other countries aswell, lack customization. The only thing you can do there is add new posts. These websites dont have contact forms. Thats it, thats all you can do on your own. For any other modification, you have to email the devapps department, which we cant do ourselves, we must address the IT support team in our country with the request and then they have to talk there. And its a big hussle, thus, we have developed our own websites, for each brand for which we are only the dealer.

These, websites were created 4 years ago and have a lot more relevant content, a lot more backlinks, they have more relevant information and yet, the traffic on these websites is far behind the websites i have described in the last paragraph. Now, i've been talking with my agency that manages these websites and the only argument they have is that the websites that we're trying to overcome in traffic and SERP is that they are older domains and thats why google ranks those websites better. That is a valid argument, or is it? Can we do more in this area?

More details:

-the websites that we created are on a monthly fee awareness campaign, now we changed the strategy a bit to drive facebook traffic in these websites

-even tho, we dont like the websites that were given by the dev apps department, we still have to put some content into it, as we're verified at the auditory session and we have to comply

-the monthly fee is 2200$

-we dont market the websites from devapps department at all, only with some btl inside the dealer, but that is mandatory

Thank you in advance!
