Trying to understand backlinks

Hi all, I'm fairly new to SEO but on a steep learning curve!

I'm an audiobook narrator and producer and have my own website. I also have profiles on various sites that offer narration/production services, as well as the usual social media profiles (except facebook, who don't like me for some reason!).

What I'm wondering is - do these various profiles "count" as backlinks? I know they're not quality backlinks but I've been using ubersuggest to analyse my site and they don't show up at all.

The strange thing that's got me wondering particularly is that i analysed another similar narrator's site and their profile on one of the narration sites does show up as a backlink whereas I have an identical page on the same site and mine does not. In fact to make things even more bizzare - the other narrators profile doesnt actually have their website link, just social media profiles (which are not live links) whereas mine is the opposite - it has my website live link but no SM profile links.

As I say I realize I need to focus on building quality backlinks with similar sites but before I get into that, I just want to make sure I haven't got something wrong in a technical sense as regards search engine visibility. My site is indexed by google every 24 to 36 hours it seems and I've submitted sitemaps.

just looking for a bit of advice from the more experienced folks on here, thanks :)
