Building authority on a domain

I bought a domain that I intend to use in about a year.

What the best way to gain SEO (with least investment).

Can I just leave the domain without connecting to a website and still grow in terms of authority?
Or should I just make a quick landing page and connect the domain?

Or neither way will be effective? (since divulgation and engagement will be close to 0)
