Have a few questions about backlink building that I was hoping the community could help with. For context, we're a Canadian family / parenting site with a DR of 35. We actually got hurt pretty bad with the latest algo update and we're trying to climb back up.
- Does having backlinks from companies that are vastly different from us (industry or location) hurt us at all? (e.g. if i got a backlink from a financial services company)
- On the flip side of question 1, does linking externally to a non-parenting company hurt us?
- Is there a minimum domain ranking I should be targeting when trying to find content partners? E.g. if i did a content exchange with 5 companies who have DR's of 10, would that even move the needle? Or would it actually hurt us? Obviously acknowledging that getting a big fish with a DR of 50-70 would help much more.
- I see all these freelancers on Fiverr / Upwork advertising backlink building services - has anyone had experience with them? Are they worth it?
- Buying backlinks - I assume its a bad move, but where would one even go about doing this? (not looking for blackhat stuff)
Any help on the above would be greatly appreciated. We're trying to build out an internal SEO function and have a steep learning curve to climb.
