Homepage ranks #1 for same keywords as product page. Problem? Branded E-Commerce Website

Hi guys, somewhat new to SEO and now in charge of updating our brand‘s online presence to make it more SEO-friendly. For a starter, I‘m mostly focusing on individual pages‘ copy (as my background is as a copywriter)

The issue: Our company sells our own products in a niche b2c sector. Currently, we have one main product and additional gear for that.

Our homepage is currently ranking #1 for the search term „brandname“ as well as added terms of synonyms of the type of product we sell, e.g.: „brandname trousers“ / „brandname pants“. You get the idea.

Our main product page, which shares the same keywords as out homepage, however, doesn‘t rank on the first page and is outranked by other online resellers.

What I‘m unsure about: is that problematic?

In my understanding, wouldn‘t it be best to rank #1 position on „brandname“ for the homepage, and #1 on „brandname + product type“ (or synonms of) for the product page?

Do both pages cannibalize each other over the same keywords? If yes, what are ways to solve this?

Not sure how to tackle this. Hope the situation/issue is clear. Would appreciate some tips.
