Question: Does backlink ranks the same as embedding?

I'm noob at SEO and I wish to rank up my website.
My question is:

If a website embeds my content, does it count as backlink?
Or it must be literally a link someone can click on?

Will a fancy interactive embedding give me more "ranking points" than a simple references?
