From what I've seen, it's common practice for web design companies to include a link to their website in the footer of every site they build. To me that never seemed like a problem, just an easy way to score a nice link. However when using the backlink tool in SEM Rush, I noticed that they listed 'link in the footer' as one of the reasons why one of my backlinks was toxic.
That being said, is this no longer a safe practice?
