Can I be punished by Google, SEO-wise, if I gradually build my web site?

I've started building a web site.

I want to publish it gradually, to be able to show friends/colleagues my progress.

Can this approach hurt me in any way?

The first version will have broken links and very little content. Then every day new content will be published, links will be implemented, text and structure will be changed daily.

Or should I wait until everything is 100% ready and then publish it?

I don't want the Google crawler to say "wtf is this?" when it crawls my version 0.0.1 and then flag me as garbage/spam/broken.
