Does reposting on Medium cause duplicate content and is that bad?

I manage the company blog but another department wants to republish a popular article on their Medium page.

Would doing so affect my blog's rankings?

I hear Medium is technically social media, so would both the blog and Medium post eventually show up got the same keyword?
