Here are my thoughts on Zero Click Search Drama (That no one asked for 😋).
Backstory: Rand Fishkin wrote an article about Google actively promoting ZCSs year over year by ensuring people are getting their queries resolved in SERP itself. Google wrote a blog in response of the same.
My opinion: I am totally on Rand's side especially considering all the PAA, Featured snippets, and new passage indexing, which will make sure queries get resolved on SERP itself and by not entering the website. It's a great thing as a user, but as an SEO, it's not that great.
In fact, If google wants to become an answer engine, they should collect answer themselves and not borrow from websites. Many informational websites puts a lot of efforts in doing their research and user never even gets to see their CTA.
2 quotes that changed my SEO/Digital Marketing strategy forever for every brand I own or work with.
1st. - Write an article that readers will want to bookmark. - Sofie Couwenbergh
How long are we going to create posts keeping SEO in mind? Recently wrote a blog post on "fat loss on intermittent fasting" and shared it on FB group with 50k+ members. Got better results than I can ever imagine I can get from search for a newbie website and without buying backlinks.
2nd. - Email's of your readers is the only thing you own. Rest everything is like building a community on a rental platform. - Joe Pulizzi .
It's always great to create that balance when it comes to the distribution of your content. You cannot survive long term on just 1 thing whether its social media, SEO, paid ads, etc.
