Should I allow a new version of my website to be built on a 301 redirect

Hi All,

Thanks for your help in advance.

I have an old basic family cottage website that has been on a family friends hosting for about 10 years. I want to redesign it on a better more updated theme. The family friend is saying that I cant access his hosting as he has other business/websites on there. He can 1) move the domain URL from IONOs to my host which is OVH which could take time and he is waiting for passwords etc etc or what will be quicker is 2) he can set up I think a 301 redirect to the new domain.

Im not sure which is the best answer and I'm not sure if i should be having the site built upon a redirect.
