Would this app improve your workflow?

Hey guys from the SEO community,

I am a software engineer and I came up with an app idea (I already made a small prototype for myself) and wanted to ask in different communities if this is something other people could use or help, get their work done faster.

What is the idea?

I often encountered the situation that I needed to copy something from a windows machine to a Mac or copy something from an iPhone to a Windows PC (or vice versa). For text or small files, I could avoid this by sending it via WhatsApp or Mail to myself (although this is not an elegant solution) it really gets a pain in the a** if you want to send a larger files (like video footage or many images for a website).

So, the idea is to have an app that acts as a universal clipboard so that you can copy text or files from all different kinds of devices to each other. If e.g. both devices are in the same network, a file transfer will happen directly in that network (not via the cloud), so you get the maximum transfer speed and it's not dependent on your actual internet speed. I know this exists in for example the Apple Ecosystem. But this has the focus on being cross-platform and giving you some extra handy tools to improve your workflow.

How it will work: On your Windows PC select a text or a file, "Ctrl + C" and "Cmd + V" on your Mac, and the text is instantly copied over or the file starts transferring from one device to the other.

You will always have a history list to get old copied text / or files that you can access with a key shortcut. All copied text is synced across all your devices via the Cloud and files up to a specific limit are too. You will get asked on large files if you want to copy them via the Cloud or just have them ready for other devices in your local network.

The design of this app will be comparable to the Spotlight search on OSX. Very minimalistic and designed to be most efficient with your workflow.

How it can improve your workflow?

  • Easily transfer large documents or files between different devices and OSs, e.g. from your phone to your main computer
  • Do you need the same text/code snipped very often when you work? No problem, copy it, pin it in the app and it is always there when you need it the next time.
  • Need something to transfer from your PC to your work PC? Just hit "Ctrl/Cmd + C" on your PC, go to work, and on your work PC hit "Ctrl/Cmd + V" and you can keep going as it would be the same device.
  • Need different text ready at hand on a presentation? Copy everything you need before the presentation, pin it, and while you give the presentation you have access to the needed text in reach of a key shortcut.

These are just a few examples of uses cases that came to my mind while thinking about how this app could improve your workflow.

What this app won't be:

It won't be a replacement for your Dropbox / OneDrive / iCloud storage. Files that are synced to the Cloud will be deleted after 30 days.

"But then why do I need this app for file transferring if I have another cloud service". For convenience sake and just to transfer (and not store) your file via the cloud. Just hit "Ctrl/Cmd + C" and the upload starts. No need to move the file to a specific folder or open the browser and upload it there. Hit "Ctrl/Cmd + V" on the destination device and file download starts. Again, no need to open anything.

Supported Systems:

  • iOS, Android

  • MacOS, Windows, Linux

What do you guys think? Do you see this improving your workflow or help you in your daily SEO business?

If yes, what problem will this app solve for you? If no, why not? Is there something missing?

I am really looking forward to reading your comments!
