how to add the adsense code in my site if there is php instead of head tag?

so i wanted to add the adsense code in my header tag of my site but there was no head tag in the header section of the theme editor. There was the <?php tag instead of head. So, now i dont know what to do and how to insert that code in my script and where to add it.
