Hey everyone,
I've noticed some interesting behavior with one of my sites.
- If I type my domain name in Google search, the meta title and description is not what I have configured on my homepage. The title is just the website name, and the description is some text that's at the bottom of my page in the about us section. When visiting my homepage, I can see the meta title in the browser header, and when viewing the page source, I can see the meta description there.
- If I type a keyword which the site homepage ranks for, the meta title is correct, but the meta description is not what I have configured, it's a snipped taken from a piece of content on the homepage.
- I then wanted to test a subpage, so I googled "site name and title keyword of the subpage". Somewhat of the same issue, the Title is correct in google, but the meta description is wrong and not using the meta description which I had set. Interestingly enough, in my google search results, beneath this subpage was my homepage and it was showing the correct title and description.
Anyone notice this type of behavior? Is this normal? The snippets and meta descriptions which are being auto generated/inputted makes no sense, I need to overwrite what is going on so it always uses my statically assigned meta title/description if possible.
Some background
- Wordpress site
- Using YoastSEO Plugin
- Sitemap generated by YoastSEO and submitting also in Google Search Console
- Google Search Console not showing any issues with crawling or errors.
Thanks
