Should you hire an agency indefinitely?

Hi all,

Curious to hear feedback from industry professionals. Were in the hotel/resort industry and ditched our agency in favour of doing everything in-house. We’ve seen good results (I think, mostly in part to the fired agency doing zero work but still collecting a hefty management fee) but are debating hiring a new SEO/SEM agency.

At what point do you think you would start to see diminishing returns, if at all?

If I’m a brand new business, and I’m seeing great results after 6mo-1yr what keeps me spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars monthly with an SEO?

If I’m an established business in a competitive industry, and I’ve hired an agency/SEO to help us compete and rank more competitively, do we agree to a year long contract and then part ways once we’ve seen the results?

I suppose I’m curious as to what type of work I should be seeing on a monthly/quarterly basis AFTER the initial period to continue justifying a monthly fee.

Thanks!
