What are some common SEO writing mistakes?

I've seen many blogs feature weak writing and useless information. One common pattern I've noticed is when a headline (H2) will ask a question, and then the first sentence of the opening paragraph answers the question. It's annoying and redundant. I don't see how this would help with increasing your SEO, but it seems many people think it's necessary.

Example:

Is water skiing popular in China? (H2)

Water skiing is not popular in China. The reason why water skiing is not popular in China....

I don't see how this style would be beneficial for a business. If increasing your SEO is the goal, then wouldn't it be better to offer content that reflected your personality?
