One of the questions at my most recent interview was "If a client had two nearly, if not entirely identical pages (let's say Page A and Page B), both of which are ranking for many different keywords and you CAN'T 301 re-direct it, what would it be the best solution? Interviewer repeats, "Remember, you can't 301 re-direct it."
I was immediaely wondering if this was a trick question because from my knowledge, there is no other solution besides 301 re-directing. So the answer I gave was "Unfortunately, there is no other solution other than to 301 re-direct so no matter what, I would tell the client to 301-direct whichever page is performing better in terms of traffic and its keyword rankings to the other page to preserve traffic, rankings, and link equity.".
I was confident giving this answer but interviewer chuckles and says I'm wrong and gives the alternative solution (which I forgot what it was). Did I give a wrong answer?
