Do repeated sitemap PINGs to google / bing make the indexing happen faster, slower or neither?

Generally I only PING my sitemap when I have changed one of the pages. My site is small and really just a test bed. I had recently put some cron jobs on my server and was tempted to add my sitemap PING to it, but didn't know what the effect would be... I see it as one of:

  1. It will just increment the change count for my site, without affecting its position in queue
  2. It will register as a collision with a queued request deleting the original and requeing at the end of the que.
  3. It will increment the change count giving the site higher weight in the queue based on some weighted queue magic.

Which, if any, of these do you think is likely?
