Explaining why keyword suggestions based SOLELY on Adwords is not the best KW research strategy

Hi all! A client has come to me with a list of keywords that an external agency has provided as part of and SEO audit of a site. There are some good suggestions in there but as we all know, it isn't the basis for a KW strategy. It misses the nuances from searching amongst other things. How can I communicate this to the client? When I have said that it isn't the way to do it I am met with accusations that I am misunderstanding the task. It's rather frustrating. Is this a good response: 1) Misses the nuances involved in KW research and search intent 2) Is a lazy way to approach 3) the keywords need to be adapted as they are very broad - meaning that the keywords are not even fully agreed. 4) Has anyone else used the term exact match to describe keywords within SEO? I have never heard it mentioned and wanted your thoughts? Thank you, TTT
