So I have been really working on my squarespace website for the past month or so (www.dcengaged.com) and I actually got to page one for some of my targeted keywords (yesh!) And was somewhere between page 2 and page 3 for all my other keywords (double score)!
Last Tuesday, I was super excited because I had some really good pictures come. I may have gotten too excited and put a bunch into a slideshow on my homepage.
The next day, all was great, I continued to move up in the rankings and all seemed to be good with the world. Then on Thursday my upbot started letting me know my site had gone down for a minute or two at a time. It has gone down daily ever since. On Saturday, my rankings started to drop (ahhh) and so on Sunday, the only thing I could find to trigure the drop in rankings was the site going down and/or my site being too heavy from the photos.
So I compressed the photos down into one bar that put my site back under the 5GB weight limit and hoped for the best. Today I got another notification that the site was down and (omg absolute panic) I have dropped off completely on all of the rankings except for my brand name where I remain ranked number 1. There are no errors in search console and no apparent reason why...
I'm not sure what to do at this point? Am I just panicking over Google's delayed reaction to my overweight site? Do I need to switch off of squarespace so that the site doesn't go down? Any ideas would be extremely appreciated!
