I work on a mid-sized, info based site (people come to learn about things), and have some state specific content. I have a page for each state with titles like "Start a Business in Oregon". I rank well for that term, but found that lately I've been losing rank for search terms like "Form a business in oregon", "Create a business in oregon", and other synonymous searches. Also losing some answer box spots for the different variations of the search.
What can I do to stop this rank loss?
I've made sure the content is all up to date, no broken links, quality content. Would using variations of the target search term in my meta info (not the same as my title <H1> tag) improve my rank for it?
Not sure if matters, but I also see that my competitors who are taking the spot all have dates in the SERPs, despite not listing the date on the page. These dates are all very recent. Any thoughts are appreciated.
