Search results for keywords and home page.

Hi, wondering if anyone can help me to understand....

I have a website that is ranking on the first page of Google results when searching for certain keywords...once clicking the search result it will take you to the home page ,the home page as been optimised for those keywords and as been the home page for nearly 2 years and is the page that as been receiving 95% of the clicks.

Now...if I choose a different page as my home page for example the ABOUT US ...when searching for the same keywords will my website loose ranking? Will Google search show on the first page results the page that once was the HOME page that had received 95% of the clicks or will it shows the new HOME (About Us) page? I hope what I'm saying it makes sense lol Thanks
