We are a strong player (once we talk to prospects) in a tight B2B telcom-tech niche. Many companies in the niche are "here's your API and tutorials, have at it" types, and they do well. Others are, "here's version B of our software that best fits what you need, have at it" types, and many of them do well.
We're more of a "these are the solutions and API's, but first, what problem are you trying to solve" type of company, which resonates really well with most prospects. Our consultative approach is what most prospects really need. There are a few others like us, most are doing okay.
There are 30-40 North American companies in the above groups.
After a brief misguided period of trying to find prospects through purchased lists of "leads," we're back to focusing on content marketing. Most of the on-site SEO is going well.
Here's the challenge, with the exception of a very small handful of consultants (who are usually tied to one of the big players), no one else is creating content in this niche.
No blogs.
No industry news that's not enamored with the big players.
No podcasts.
No YouTube channels.
No influencers.
Our domain authority is low, lower than the competitors who obviously got very spammy with their backlink building. The question is, in this situation, what would be your backlink building strategy?
