Last month I finished off a site for a local business. It's just a simple site under 10 pages with text that describes their various services with local keywords worked into the text but nothing too heavy and it still all reads naturally. Images are all original with appropriate name structure for the files and also titles. There's nothing out of the ordinary, except that this is the 2nd site I have produced for this business. It's a husband & wife with a business that has separate but overlapping aspects to it, so after producing their main site, the husband wanted one that focused on his side of the business. I did explain that having one website with just more information on it would make more sense, but ultimately I left the decision to them, and they wanted a 2nd domain with a local SEO angle to it. There's no duplicate content except for core business information (name, address, contact details).
I got it finished off an had the all clear to go live and make the site public. A week later I took a look in Google Search Console and it had zero search impressions and wasn't indexed. I must admit that I hadn't done a sitemap, so I kicked myself for forgetting that and got it added to the site and into Search Console. A few days later it still wasn't indexed. No pages are noindex, robots.txt is clean, and the sitemap works.
I manually requested indexing on each page and they were quickly indexed, and search impressions came through, 67 on the day of requesting indexing. Then the next day it dropped to under 10 impressions and then back to zero again and has stayed that way except for when I manually request indexing (of pages that are already indexed) which gives a bump in impressions.
Can anyone think of something I could be missing for why this would be happening? The only thing I can think of is that the site is being completely disregarded due to the business name being the same as their original site, but as the content is so different from one to the other I thought it would be okay.
