Rankings falling dramatically

New to SEO

I've a sight I was able to get on page 1 and 2 for numerous low competition keywords within a couple of weeks. Of the last few days the rankings have been dropping dramatically often 10-30 spots in one update. Just wondering if this is normal for new sites as google finds the proper starting position or if I may have done something wrong.
