SEO for a multi platform website

Customary into - I'm a noob.

I operate a small family medical clinic and get most of our marketing done through an agency.

At present we have a custom developed website and are planning on adding a blog section to it, to assist with search rankings for the keywords we target.

To keep costs low, I'm considering asking our marketing agency to develop the blog section on WordPress, so my team can easily upload new content and manage it without a constant interaction with the agency, where they bill us for man hours. The link for the blog will be in the original sitemap and part of the website - which upon clicking will redirect to the WordPress based blog page.

Before I ask my agency, I want to be prepared by understanding the following:

  1. Is there an impact on search ranking if we go ahead with the above route? Redirecting to another website, especially WordPress.

  2. Is there added work for the agency to boost both the blog and website? Do they treat this as 2 websites if they target keywords are same and both cross link with each other?

I've tried looking online, but cannot find much information. I'll be greatful for any light shed on the topic.

Thank you 😀
