Correct way to optimize SEO for DIY instructions site that links to products located on a separate domain?

I have a (Wordpress) site which focuses on DIY instructions. My SEO strategy has been effective and I am now receiving reasonable traffic. I wish to provide a pre-built solution to my readers as one monetization strategy. However, I plan to build a storefront for these physically pre-made goods on a separate domain (having to do with longer term strategic reasons).

So my question is: how do I avoid keyword cannibalization and properly set up the new domain?

I suppose that I want to target the same keywords, but emphasize different verbs ("DIY" vs. "buy"). However, I am not certain that is sufficient. I'm sure it's been asked, as everything has, but I can't find a simple answer. Thanks!
