For the sake of anonymity, I'm going to remain somewhat vague and for that, I apologize ahead of time. Essentially I've been selling WordPress themes for the past 5 years or so and during that time I've used a forum software to provide support to customers. They can ask pre-sale questions, post testimonials, and ask for support. These are currently public-facing areas for anyone to see (need to be a member to post).
I want to restructure the site where the pre-sale + testimonials area would be gone (changing to a simple contact form) and the support forum would change up to where only valid customers can use it. When removing these forum categories and turning the support forum private to only members, is there anything specific I should do to avoid any penalties from Google. These areas don't really serve many purposes for search results as the majority of the information is rather old and usually very specific to a feature or product I sell. One of the goals of the rebrand is to get Google to focus on specific pages over the support forums.
If this post sounds stupid, it's because I'm stupid in regards to this area. I know HTML/CSS/JS, I'm a simple-minded person :D and have never really cared about this aspect of it all, to be honest. I want to change that and really focus on optimizing my site this time around.
TLDR: I want to essentially turn a public customer support forum (anyone can see it) into a private forum for those support members (only paid members) with minimal negative effects from Google.
