Will duplicating a post then editing it with new original content affect SEO in any way?

I know this question sounds a bit stupid, but I'm new to SEO.

I'm starting a blog and I have a category that requires a specific blog post layout and design, but It's tedious work to get that layout right every time I want to add a new post, so I was thinking of having a post as a template then duplicating it every time to edit content and replace it with a new one, but I was worried this would affect search engines somehow, so is it okay to do this?
