How would you diagnose a huge drop in impressions in Google Search Console?

I have a website that was growing at a steady month over month. But over 30 days, impressions increased by 70%. The impressions maintained around the same level for about 3 months. Then Google hit with an update at the end of April. Traffic dropped by 70%. It seemed Google was fixing something.

After diving into the numbers in GSC, I identified 10 pages that were significantly impacted.

I took these steps after identifying the pages:
- tried to identify on-page issues (title, alt, meta, schema, keyword density, grammar, etc)
- reviewed internal links (I found some pages with poor anchor text, which I fixed)
- reviewed backlinks (found no toxic backlinks)

Did I miss anything? What would you do if you were in the same situation?

I have not been able to identify the exact issue. I feel my site was getting more impressions than it deserved and Google fixed it- is this possible?

FYI: It has been 6 months since the drop, and impressions are up 25%.

Thanks for the help. Cheers!
