Nofollow Link Attribute Is Working Fairly Well

It is hard to make everyone happy - but interesting that Google says the nofollow is working well and they are happy with it.
Personally, I do kind of agree.

Search Console Backlink Report Only Report Not Fully Fixed Yet

I asked Google for an official update on the Search Console status, since we reported yesterday that it appears most of the reports are back to normal. Shortly after Google posted on Twitter saying that all the reports are back to normal minus the backlink report that "still needs some time to update."

Google wrote "The issue with missing fresh data in the indexing reports in Search Console has been resolved. The only report that still needs some time to update is the backlinks report. Thanks for your patience!"

Creating a word cloud with my SEO keywords

I’m not sure if this is the best place to ask. I want to create a word cloud based on queries from typical keywords.

A typical word cloud just looks at how many times you say a word. However, I want to include certain phrases with higher queries and make that larger.

Does this exist and am I making sense?

For example, let’s say this is my list: New York Yankees (3000) New shirt (23) New shoes (12) New York (8000) New York City (2000)

I don’t want just a big cloud that says “new” since I use that word a lot.

How can I check or any ideas.

I responded to both and told them to come in for either free food or their money back among but would expect they will never show.

Did mobile-first indexing have any impact on the amount of time it takes for desktop results to reflect the impact of SEO-related changes to websites?

Does anyone have any quotes from Mueller, Illyes, etc. on this topic?

Basically I’m wondering if the change to mobile-first indexing changed the amount of time it takes for desktop results to reflect the impact of SEO-related changes to websites.

Like if you get a new backlink, for example, and Google indexes it. Which will you see first - significant changes to mobile results or desktop results? Or identical changes?

I’ve noticed recently that whenever I make big changes to a site that have a really positive impact on mobile, I don’t see the same kind of results on desktop until sometimes like a week later. Far as I can remember, it’s only been since mobile first indexing began.Has anyone noticed this too?

Troubleshooting Symptoms of Erratic Rankings Changes & Purges

Hi all,

One of our most important landing pages has been behaving erratically in SERPs the past few months.

For the keyword we're targeting, here's an example:

  • Day 1: On page 1.
  • Day 3: Dropped to page 3-4.
  • Day 5: No where to be found.
  • Day 7: Page 1 again.

All throughout this, the page looks good in Inspect Tool and is properly indexed. All other webpages that are ranking for this keyword is very stable - not too many changes going on.

I know this isn't a lot of info, but don't think I can share more.

Is this a common symptom of an underlying issue? Anyone else experience this before?

Should the URL aim for the long-tail keyword or the main related keyword?

Fairly new to SEO with a brand new site.

I want to rank for a low-volume, low-competition keyword as my site is new with no links but as I move on I could use the same page aimed for the main keyword.

Example:

What would be the best URL and title format to use?

Title: Best cheap [money keyword]

URL: cheap-[money-keyword]

(only focus on the long-tail keyword)

OR

Title: Best cheap [money keyword]

URL: [money-keyword]

(eventually change the title to "Best [money keyword]" and aim only for the higher volume keyword. URL won't need to the changed for that)

Using city name in title tag/h1 'post-possum'?

Hello,

My co-worker and I are having a discussion about if we should be including location modifiers in our title tags in the post-possum Google world and we are at a point where we can see how "Pittsburgh Chiropractor" and "Chiropractor" (these are just examples, not our actual city or clientele)

Our thinking is that since Google is looking at the search location of the user, would the city modifier be "automatically " added into the search term since they are taking the search location into play? Obviously, both of the above search terms would have different search results which are causing our debate.

Let me know your thoughts.

Best SEO for a startup website?

I have an art/design community website that has been up for about a year and it’s still having problems getting going in terms of users. I hired an SEO company about 8 months ago to “do SEO” for $250 a month and not only did they not follow directions but I couldn’t afford it because the website isn’t generating any revenue or enough traffic. They did get more users, signups, activity and traffic but it wasn’t worth the cost. Google rankings did improve but now they’re back to normal.

So are there any good recommendations you guys have for hiring someone that can really knock it out of the park for not all that much money, or someone that can do something in one month that will greatly improve my rankings? As a startup, I don’t have much money to spend on this because again, the site isn’t generating any revenue. Any help is appreciated!

Using Google Analytics to Track Backlink Performance?

My understanding is that Google Analytics only shows links that have actually referred traffic to your site, ie: a backlink that has been clicked on which brought a user to your site. Other 3rd party tools will show you what links have actually been indexed even if they haven't been clicked on or brought any traffic. My question is: Besides being able to see that the link actually brought someone to your site, is there any other use for GA in relation to backlinks?

Do CSS-based fade and transition effects impact SEO?

I’ve recently heard that a dev team has recommended avoiding use of on-page fade and transition effects, because it was hurting our SEO ranking on a newly redesigned site.

Sorry! Three questions about WP slugs and a static home page

  1. So I've built a site with seven pages, one of which is a static home page. I want to optimise for "wedding dresses London" (and surrounding areas). The homepage slug is just "home". Should I leave the slug as it is?

  2. And, for other pages, would it make sense to optimise each page for variations of "wedding dresses London"? e.g.

  • "wedding dress London"
  • "wedding dresses Hammersmith"
  • "bridal gowns London"
  • "wedding dress Fulham"
  • "wedding dress Chiswick"
  • etc.?
  1. Two of the pages are just "terms and conditions" and "privacy policy". Does it make sense NOT to optimise them for any of these terms?

My apologies if this is a real beginnner's post. Got to start somewhere! I did try to Google this but nothing seemed to clear up these issues but if I've missed a good tutorial let me know. Thanks

SEO and short-lived pages changing frequently

Hi,

we are working on a football (soccer) match preview web site and we are dependent on search traffic. Our content is previews of upcoming football games - the next seven days or so. We have thousands of these active at any time.

Each article is generated automatically at a certain time, "written" by a bot who creates sentences and paragraphs to make a complete article.

The challenge is, in order to keep the article factually correct we need to update and change the article almost every day until the match is played and the article is no longer relevant. As the articles are auto-generated most of the sentences, paragraphs etc is changed.

I imagine this hurts our SEO?

We try not to change the Page title and URL, and I think that helps. Input? Should we add meta description to the "no-change" list?

Any qualified suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Cost for (reputable) link outreach service?

I'm a small business owner with an ecommerce website. My niche is language learning, and we are selling a sign up for an app.

My website contains over 1,200 blog posts, most of which are over 1k words long.

I think we've got a good handle on all the technical / on-site SEO stuff, and we've got a decent back link profile. (Around 4k backlinks. Nothing super amazing, but no toxic links, and all done manually.)

Among my posts, I've got about 20 articles, around 2k - 4k words long that could be considered "10x / ultimate guide" posts.

I'm looking to leverage these higher-end posts (and a free subscription to our app) to get more targeted, higher-quality inbound links to my "money pages". (Home page, how it works, etc...)

I've done a bunch of research on my competitors, my niche influencers, and sites adjacent to my own (example: memory blogs, self improvement, etc...)

I've also scraped these sites to harvest as much contact info as possible.

I just don't have the bandwidth to manage all the individualized outreach for link building.

So here's my question: based on all of the above, what is the range of fees I could expect to pay for a reputable vendor / agency to do outreach and help me with link building?

My SEO Career - Help?

Hey guys,

I'm 4 months into an apprenticeship in SEO and specialising in outreach. I like outreaching, the way you speak to new people, selling them through my own email and the challenge gives me that boost that I need on a day-to-day basis!

Also, I love the company I work for everyone is so nice and I'm getting along with everybody (even though I'm the youngest).

However, as much as I love the company, they suck, they'd rather get rid of you than give you a pay rise and since I've started more than 15 people have left (15/150).

I'm thinking about my future and I don't see myself at the company for too long after my apprenticeship. So since I'm most likely going to be doing outreach all the time throughout my stay at this company.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... does anyone have any suggestions on the type of job I can go into? Do they just hire outreach people with little to none content creation experience? I'm a little lost but would appreciate anything you have to say really.

Articulating the importance of SEO for a B2B non transactional website

How do you guys set about your tasks, and upward management of SEO for sites which are not transactional - and your core market is perceived not to "search for these services via Google"...

I'd like to think that this community understands that SEO is always going to be a "part" of the user journey - and so I just wondered if any of you could share likeminded challenges?

Thanks!

Question on two sites vs one for a brand.

I run a company page that fully represents our brand. We are also a franchising company so we have a franchise website also.

The company site is directed towards people interested in our brand and our membership levels.

The franchise site is just to put people in our franchise funnel.

Both link to each other right now.

The question is: Are we making a mistake by having two sites? The question is coming up because we are about to buy another franchise brand and they are running one site for all. I am leaning towards running 4 sites. But want a few opinions from the groups on the best way forward.

My impressions and clicks on Google's console (organic views/clicks) have tanked to 0.

My website is fairly new, but I was averaging around 100 impressions per day and 2-3 clicks. Around the 23rd I did a couple little changes, I uploaded a site map for the first time, and I paid a guy on fiver to post some backlinks. Now I have had 1 impression, 0 clicks for the past 5 days. Did I fuck up massively? I'm not into SEO just a small time blogger.

Tips for Image Optimization

Hey everyone, I’m starting an SEO internship next week and the majority of my role will be focused on writing alt text descriptions and new photo titles for about 3000 pictures. I’ll have a team who are well versed in SEO matters to walk me through the specifics of the role but I’m wondering if there’s any tips or resources anyone can direct me towards to give me an edge walking in. I’m a communication theory student and this position kinda just fell in my lap but I’m a fairly proficient bullshitter so I’m relatively confident I can learn quickly. Anything helps!

Migrating WP site to new theme and all new content, how to avoid losing ranking?

I understand this is probably a pretty common question here, but I am generally new to the optimization game. I have a client that I am designing a new site for in WP, and his current site runs WP already. If I am to introduce a new theme, and all new content, will he lose his ranking? He really only ranks because of his GMB listing, so I imagine there is not much potential for harm by migrating the site. Thanks in advance and I apologize for the noob question, was just hoping to get some clarification since everything I found was semi related to my problem, but not totally.

New to SEO

I own a small local business that provides high end music lessons. We have been the most expensive teachers in our area for about ten years and get most of our website traffic from google AdWords. I would like to cut our advertising costs enough to provide a few need based scholarships and also just want to learn more about seo because I find it interesting and want our website to have more visibility and come up more in organic searches. I have a few questions that may be stupid because I am new and am a musician, not a business or tech person.

Since we are so expensive, I feel weird advertising our services in places like Facebook yard sale sites, but I read that we should do this for the back links. Is this true? Should I just post an ad on these as if I were selling an old purse, would that work? Typically, I advertise in our local parent FB groups, but I haven’t been religious about it, because we don’t usually get a lot of business this way.

TL;DR I would really appreciate any and all advice pertaining to SEO, backlinks, website promotion, or pointers on where to find more info on this for a local service business. Thanks!

If i make a pages with 90% the same content will Google ignore them?

I am opening an index site based of mylisting theme. The search engine for catagory and location is on a static page so there's no way to make a different title for each combination (lets say someone search for "Hairdresser" in "london" there's no title for it). I was thinking about making a different page for each combination on the site - a page for hairdresser in london. hairdresser in usa and so on for example..

If ill use the same sentences and change just the service\catagory and location in it, will i still be able to promote it?

"For list of ______ on ______ click here" (for example)

i want to add a link to the list of listings on the site from the page.

Is it doable? thank you

Made one change and my traffic halved

I have a very tiny blog. One of my pages was getting 100 clicks a day.

It’s a simple question post and I had the “position 0” snippet for that query, which is where I expect most of the clicks were coming from as organically I am rank position 2/3.

However, I didn’t like the way my snippet read. It was a bit waffly, Google would sometimes show a competitor and I knew I could do better.

So I did. As a result, this page now only gets 50 clicks a day.

My guess is that because my snippet now sufficiently answers the users question, they do not even feel they have to click my post!

Well, is this good? From Google’s/the users perspective I guess it is, because the answer is provided more efficiently.

But for me? My traffic has halved!

What do you think I should do? How do you maximise your traffic from having a snippet?

Need help for an assignment! Please suggest an SEO writing tool!

I’m applying to a job where one of my assignments asks me to write a 500 word article and asks what keywords I target. I know tools like SEMRush and Yoast can evaluate your content but I’m unemployed so I can’t pay for those right now. Yoast is a free plugin but you need to pay for Wordpress to have plugins.

Does anyone know of any websites I can use for free to type my article and then have it make sure I’m optimizing for the keyword? Or is there some sort of formula, like X out of 500 words need it?

When creating content, what do you consider "great?"

What makes for a post that has the worthiness to rank? What type of content makes people on other sites, blogs and social media outlets sit up and want to link to it?

It needs to be great to the person, but "great" is subjective. It needs to be long, but "long" is subjective. It needs to be informative, but "informative" is subjective.

So, all things being subjective to each one of us, I guess I'm asking what does Google consider great content worth showing in the results?

My Site's Images No Longer on Google Images

Hello,

I am very new to SEO and the way Google indexes domains. I had put some images on my website two days ago, and I was able to search them on Google yesterday using image names and alt text. But I added new images last night and can no longer search the previous images on Google (they're all still on the site, just not showing up on Google now).

Does anyone know the cause of this? It's not a big deal but I just thought it was weird that they'd be fully removed after they'd been added.

Help with KW research, please.

I am pretty new to this, and it seems to be my stumbling block. I have 2 sites at the moment and have ranked top 5 for 1 KW, but I think it was a fluke. can you give me your opinions, please?

I currently have KWFinder, Ahrefs, Keywordtool.io. and obviously GKWP.

For the exact same keyword I get 4 different results:

KWFinder: 30spm, 7kwd

Ahrefs: 100spm, 2kwd

Keywordtool 30spm 100 competition (High)

GKWP 10-100spm Competition High

I then google the exact search term and Top 10 SERPS are:

PAs between 5-32 with DAs between 2 and 59.

1/10 have an exact match KW, the rest are close but not exact.

My site is a relatively new site so DA and PA 1. No backlinks.

How would you proceed?

Thank you all in advance

SEO Workflow on iPad Pro

Anyone here who uses an iPad Pro and does SEO?

I was wondering how your workflow goes. I’m really considering to completely switch from my 2013 macbook air to the latest 10.5inch iPad Pro.

Point to Google maps or an iframe?

I've a series of apps and books. I use my own maps. I'd also like to offer Google maps so a reader has the option to use the world's most popular map....

I'm thinking there's 2 options.

1) a link to Google maps app on mobile 2) a link to my own web page with a Google map iframe.

Option 1 means I lose people to Google maps but the reader gets the best experience.

Option 2 means I can start ranking my domain for certain maps and obviously give more content. However it doesn't allow people to use Google maps app which I think they will not like.

User usage and budget does not allow for a dedicated Google map API integration.

Any thoughts on this or other alternatives?

Linkbuilding is shit

I'm going to be super controversial: I think backlinks are way overhyped.

Everywhere I go, people are so adamant that links are everything. Sorry, but I'm not quite convinced. I'm hoping some of you guys can prove me wrong.

I don't know of a single experiment where links vs quality content was tested parallel to one another. I.e make a site with mediocre content and load it with links vs quality content with no back links.

So, I decided to experiment with two of my own websites. This is a MINI-experiment and should be taken with a grain of salt. This by NO MEANS expansive and comprehensive.

Website 1: Azon product reviews. I have about 25k words worth of articles that I wrote. Note that I never purchase the products so the content is pretty flimsy. Although this shouldn't matter too much because my top competitors definitely never purchased the products.

I bought several link packages on BHW and even have a couple whitehat links -- which was a lot of work. For white hat practice, I would email manufacturers and build a relationship with their marketing director.

Also I have a guy from Silicon Valley who is pointing his relevant expired domains to my site.

Words: 25k

Articles: 10

Total Backlinks: ~150

Clicks from Google (Based on GSC): 11

Impressions: 992

Total Time: 9 months

Website 2: Info Product Reviews. I actually asked for review copies or opted in for a free trial before writing every review. If I couldn't get the product, I didn't review it. I skyped product owners to build relationships.

Words: 20k

Articles: 10

Total Backlinks: 0

Clicks from Google (Based on GSC): 60

Impressions: 3820

Total Time: 4 months

Help Needed - Fake Books posted online and Google will not help

All, i am in desperate need for help. I am based in Toronto, Canada.

I had a stalker who published fake books using my name/pictures and published them online. They are not really books, just title covers. The stalker has psychological issues, and i filed a police report, and the stalker stopped.

The problem is, anyone with an online account can publish books through these multiple online publishers. I reached out to Google to remove these books from the search engine because if you Google my name, these books pop up. They told me to reach out to these third party sources and Amazon and get them to take it off, and it will automatically flow into Google. I did that, reached out to everyone and they all removed the books.

Issue is, Google still does not help me. The books are still listed on Google Books, and if you search my name the links for these books pop up especially in the Image sections. All the links are dead, and if you click on them, the links are dead, but they still show up on Google Images with my pictures on it.

I need these images removed ASAP, and the books removed from Google Books. Google has been no help. They just keep flipping me between departments. I am seriously desperate.

Can anyone please help me?

Wordpress/ BlueHost beginner SEO help

So I'm brand new (about one hour in) to SEO and Yoast on Wordpress, so I've been trying to follow tutorials, but the past five times I've tried to click verify, the following message comes up:

Verification method:HTML file

Failure reason:Your verification file was not found in the required location.

Please fix your implementation and reverify, or use another verification method.

So far, I've:

  1. Selected URL Prefix property type and put in my site name
  2. Authenticated the Google Authorization Code
  3. Chose my profile
  4. Took the HTML tag from GSC and pasted it next to Google Verification Code under Webmaster Tools in Yoast.

After saving the changes and going back to GSC to click verify is when that message pops up. I tried searching on Google what to do, but I don't even understand the lingo they use to explain it.

A message on my Wordpress dashboard also pops up, reading: "We have detected the following issues that affect the SEO of your site.

Huge SEO Issue: You're blocking access to robots. You must go to your Reading Settings and uncheck the box for Search Engine Visibility." Does this have something to do with it?

If someone would be able to help me, I'd be so grateful. My frustration is through the roof. UGH!

Thanks!

Link building new method / project

I usually work with 1 client doing run of the mill link building but I have a new idea for a method that the client doesn't want to try so would like to find someone who I can try it with.

I have good video editing skills. I look through a niche and find a post which details a story. I then make a video of the story from start to finish, show it to the blogger and ask them add a thank you link to the client.

Now this could work well because it's not just paying for a link , it's actually providing the blogger with something personal. I think it will allow me to focus on high quality link targets.

I'm looking for a person who has a lot of potential work available so this could be a good income stream for me, and has a budget of at least $1k a month

I would only take payment after links are placed.

Send me a message if of any interest

Tips for starting out as a SEO freelancer?

Hi guys, I am considering trying freelancing for side projects while still keeping my day job.

I think for 1 person it wont be possible for me to take more than 10 clients and the aim is to get at least 6 with a monthly fee of about 400 - 600 per client. Just looking to make a little extra income on the side.

What tools do you guys recommend for an individual starting out as a SEO freelancer?

Not looking to build a huge agency or anything, so I will also be providing limited services (keyword research, backlink strategy, on site optimization and some basic SEO audits and reporting.

I am looking at the bare minimum in terms of paid products due to a limited budget.

This is my plan, let me know what you guys think.

keyword research>> google keyword planner (free), keywordshitter (free), kw finder (paid)

backlink strategy >> no budget for ahrefs (any good alternatives?)

on site optimization and audit>> screaming frog (free), xenu (free), google page speed insights (free), seooptimer (free)

duplicate content search / blog duplicate content >> copyscape? (paid)

ranking and reporting >> Google search console (free), google analytics (free), serpook for a rank tracker (paid)

Is this enough to start out?

Would really love to get all your insights, thanks!

5 Factors That Influence Google Ranking in 2019

Recently, we were in a survey asking the entrepreneurs about the recent factors that influence Google rankings a lot. There we discovered that many of the newbies are completely unaware of the latest factors that play a pivotal role in boosting the search engine rankings in 2019. They are basically putting more focus on responsive website development rather than implementing the digital marketing services of 2019 that dominate the Google Search Engine Ranking.

Personal blog - domain name and other questions

Hey!

I have purchase a domain "lastname.dev" and have started writing computer programming related posts on it.

When I search "Firstname Lastname" on google, it appears in middle of second page or first on third page.

Should I change my domain to "firstname.lastname.dev"? Would it help?

My landing page has just my name and what I currently do, and links to about me page as well as my blog post which is at /posts/. My posts have been linked by others on FB and twitter. Will this cause my landing page burried and blog posts come up when I search "Firstname Lastname"?

Should I hire someone on Fiverr to get my landing page on #1?

I am looking for long-term building of website - I want it to appear #1 within 2 years.

Additional info: there are no other blogs or websites when my name is searched, just LinkedIn, Facebook, GitHub, Twitter and some random local pages.

Thanks!

Life after SEO

I have been in the SEO industry for a few years now and wonder what common jobs/careers people take after working in SEO.

Have you or someone you know start off in SEO than move to another industry with their skill set?

Thanks in advance!

Have you ever made a post that rank 1 immediately?

Or did it first appear around 10 or so and then slowly grow in the ranks?

Ranking the homepage versus a different page

Hi, I have a question for the community.

I have a small e-commerce site in a niche market. For sake of example, let's say that we sell camping shade structures and I want to rank for these two key phrases: 1) "camping shade structures" 2) "camping shade canopies".

On my homepage we talk about how great our shade structures are, with the idea being we are trying to get the home page to rank for "camping shade structures". We have another page that talks about how we make such great camping shade canopies.

When I look at our rankings I see that our homepage doesn't rank for either key phrase, at all. Instead, the other page ranks for both key phrases, both around position 15-25.

Of course I want to rank in the top 5 for both key phrases, but I'm wondering if my strategy isn't working well since the homepage doesn't rank at all.

So my question is, should I be trying to rank the homepage and this other content page separately, or should I try to rank the content page higher since it already has some momentum?

Thanks in advance everyone. I've learned a lot from this sub!

How is Namecheap hosting for a blog when compared to Siteground hosting?

I'm leaning towards Namecheap because their hosting plans seem way cheaper than Siteground and Namecheap provides a lot more visitors/month and SSD storage.

But I have a lot of comments here on this sub recommending the crap out of Siteground.

What would be your advice?

I'm running a blog and am trying to take precautions in case it goes viral or starts accumulating a lot of visitors.

Speed and reliability is my concern, but Namecheap's pricing is so attractive.

Edit: Don't mind you guys pitching me for either service, I'm looking to be swayed or convinced by your experiences! (had a few PM's)
