So my friend just opened a small business (a yoga studio) and wants me to help him out with seo cor hus business. I think he has a wordpress running on wordpress.
I am a second year comp sci student and it's great experience for me so I agreed but I told him I have no clue about SEO.
Before I start googling, can you guys point me some links or general advice one what information I need for my friend and what I should look into doing.

Does anyone have any thoughts on just how high-quality your site's content needs to be?
When I started writing content for a digital marketing agency, it was pretty bare bones. They'd give me a title and I'd cook up 800 or so words. The next step was just guessing at a few generic keywords and throwing them in the title and sub-headings (we weren't even thinking much about h1's and h2's), and making sure we used them again in the first paragraph after the headings.
Now, we're trying to be more sophisticated about it: Keyword research, meta descriptions, customized URLs, properly using title and H2 tags, writing 1,100-word posts, and trying to dig deeper into the topic with each h2 (rather than just re-hashing the keyword).
And, it just seems like the brute force worked better.
Now, a few caveats: (1) We provide content for a few clients, and I don't have great reporting for all of them; (2) We got the most results with clients where we were using these techniques on maybe a dozen or so case studies a month, vs. 4 blog posts a month, and (3) We started evolving our content strategy a few months ago, so all the posts where we used those old techniques have had more time to gain traction.
But still, every time I even pop into any reporting, it seems like the older stuff keeps doing better, and in some cases we're showing dips in search visibility.
Meanwhile, when I do an incognito search for many of the topics I'm writing about, it seems like all the top results don't follow all the recommendations about posts being more than 1,000 words, properly using H1 and H2 tags, internal and external links, etc.
I'm sorry if this is vague, but I'm just moving into more of a content strategy/SEO position
But, I'm curious if anyone else has come across this phenomenon? Is it possible that simplistic strategy + volume is still better than high quality content? Or, does it take longer to gain traction, or vary from industry to industry?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

For year events or seasons, I have blog posts I've written in the past that are equally relevant at each time each year. For example, when the monsoon rain finally hits AZ (where I live and our business operates), there is a blog post that I should be writing to explain a few things to our customers. This can happen at varying days, and is more of a seasonal event than a particular day or holiday. Is it better to re-distribute the older post I've written about this topic, or should I write a new post each year? I can see some possible benefits to both, but thought I'd ask before doing anything today.
Just checked my backlinks on semrush and ahrefs. On the 22nd it jumps around 13k all from some random viagra comment spam. Domain authority has dropped 5 points. On the 29th its jumped again. Anybody know what could have caused this. The links all point to an old blog post.

My company is using a wordpress plugin called "Comments Ratings" to get reviews on our listings as we're in a travel niche and reviews help us a lot. However, since we're using this plugin, I'm thinking that Google will treat them...well, as comments.
I've read somewhere that comments are not significant for the SERP but reviews are. So I'm wondering, what do you guys know about that and if you have an advice on whether to migrate to another plugin or keep the same one?
People love our brand and write reviews on their own, but still I'm wondering if it is helpful for ranking at all given it might be treated as a comment.

The site is verified and when i googled the site this morning the SEO title and Meta description appeared in google but when the owner and myself checked a while later it only appeared again as "dolia-home". It might have been counterproductive to have switched blogging from Windows to Linux live USB. Do Google services dislike the monetization outside the Windows world? Now gAnalytics, Seconsole show meaningless stats, AdSense too, except the actual revenue clicks coming in. I've managed to import cookies from the platform I've used for years, to no effect. I've been on the fence about syndicating the content on my blog to medium, HuffPost and other authority sites that would be willing to publish the articles. However, I'm curious to how much impact it will actually have, if there's really any benefit at all or do I run the risk of penalising my already ranking blog posts due to duplicate content.
I understand Google don't penalise with manual action for syndication (most of the time) like many believe, but, I'm still wary.

Months ago I've done a thorough registration of my blogger blogs with search engine console, g analytics. Adsense running for years. Except wit time, and past 2 weeks, crawler traffic has become 90% of all visits. I figured out it's impossible. So I visited my blogs from unrelated IPs, and sure enough, each visit has been recorded on analytics AND statcounter as mediapartners Google at 66.249.69.*** with the bug icon on statcounter. What department of the Google Corp should I email?
So my authority score on SEM Rush has tanked from 21 to 10 in 2 months. My MOZ DA is seemingly stable at 20 and PA at 26.
Is this a SEM Rush error? I can't think of any factors which would cause it.

I've been working with a company for the past 3 months, and we recently have started using Semrush. I ran the backlink auditor and it says 47% of the baklinks are from "theglobe.com" or similar domains thereof. How badly will this affect my rankings? I assume that Google must detect them as spam to a degree, but I have no idea when they were formed or how.

My current website has a number of separate pages for our individual services as well as a resource section with information regarding these specific subjects - these niche pages rank great for their respective keywords, however, I've noticed for a number of our more general terms (also more of the money terms) we are middle of the pack with two of our pages showing up in the results. (for example the search term "3d rendering services" shows our home page and our "house rendering page" however both are on the second page.
Is it more advantageous to create a single, very large, well-optimized home page with all our niche page's current ranking content on it or does it make sense to simply ensure the various pages we have currently are not considered thin or too similar to one another?

I have asked a few friends with mixed answers, so hopefully, you guys have some info or thoughts.
A client hired a copywriter with what I assume to be little to no SEO knowledge. They write good sales copy and their focus is on sales funnel improvements. They wrote a heap of content for the website but it's all the same content apart from, say, a change of heading here and there.
The same testimonial, the same services mentioned word for word, the same everything.
For example, one page is called "Better Services", the other is "Better Products".
Both have the same content apart from "You'll love our product" or "You'll love our service", and so on... You get the drift.
Now... Using all of your blog content and putting it together into a pdf for people to download is usually a good way to rank, get some downloads and get some info from people before downloading your makeshift e-book, but it's essentially duplicate content.
I was always under the impression that unique content across web pages is better for SEO and user experience.
Obviously duplicate content across different URLs is a no-no ie: it's copied etc.
But, what about content/copy on the same website? What are your thoughts?

A client of mine has a news website, and he wants to implement SEO. They already have some of the basics set up (keywords, tagging, technical requirements for photos/videos, etc.). I'm working to make the site more SEO friendly (schema, sitemaps, AMP, etc). Most of these have been fairly effective.
Because they're a news site, content is almost always solely reliant on what's happening day-by-day. This can make performance erratic. The idea of a lifestyle section for evergreen content (and ad opportunities) has been floated around. However, site limitations prevent that from happening right now. Also, we can't just build our content around keywords, as the writers have to make the stories in a specific format.
Do you guys have any tips on how I can get consistent results for this kind of site?

I'm doing some SEO work on a term that has a particularly high volume of traffic. I've managed to get it from 100+ to 21st on Google (just trying to break that 2nd page!).
One of the things that always comes back in audits and SEMrush crawls is that my bounce rate is quite high. Analytics confirms this, but the traffic is minimal so the high bounce rate isn't really gospel. Similar pages that have more traffic on our site has a very decent bounce rate.
To remedy the poor bounce rate, I was considering using PPC to target the keyword and send traffic to the page, with hope that a larger volume of traffic will lead to a more concrete bounce rate.
So my main question is this: Does Google use the behaviour of people visiting the site through paid channels when considering organic ranking, or is the behaviour (bounce rate) of users through paid channels ignored?
I created a site with similar activity and keyword. Both sites are Google's first pages. Whether linking to these two sites is black hat ؟ Please give me the answer.

Hey guys, Just wondering if it's a volume thing or whether my page has issues. I have 4 keywords ranking on semrush and they are basically x town social media marketing, x town SEO, x town Facebook marketing and x town digital marketing.
My ranking on semrush can go from top 10 down to 80 and back up to 30 then back down again in 2 or so weeks. I havent changed the page in about a month.
So my question is, is this a volume issue that semrush isnt seeing enough search data; or is my page having issues?

Hello people. A few questions regarding HREFLang.
Client is in the automobile industry, market that we are handing is Singapore (SG). Each market is handled by different agencies
Looked through the page source of multiple countries and they do not seem to have the Hreflang on their website. Will there be any implications if we add Hreflang only on SG website?
There are also different URL structure. Eg
SG: /cars/nameofcar USA: /vehicles/name-of-car
SG: client.com.sg USA: clientusa.com
Will there be any errors thrown out later once I’ve added the Hreflang tag to the SG market only?
I’ve a client (automobile industry) that wants to include HREFLANG tags onto the website.
Problem is the website is under the Singapore market. And when I look through some of the website belonging to another country, they do not seem to have HREFLANG tags as well.
Is it okay to work on HREFLANG tag just for the SG market? Will there be any implications if other countries do not have that on their website?

So a few days ago I was making some changes to my site and did a wordpress reinstall. This made it so my site was HTTPS://www. instead of HTTPS:// for like 2 days. I have changed it back to HTTPS:// but in Google search console it has finally discovered some links I have built, unfortunately in GSC it says the linking page is HTTPS://www. instead of HTTPS:// however all the links that have been built are to HTTPS:// so im not quite sure what to do here. I resubmitted the sitemap but that hasnt seemed to work. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Hey guys thank you for all the info. Currently in the midst of setting up a client who has a mobile blasting truck that can move throughout the state. I advised him that setting up multiple sites (one in each) city where I know we can rank organically and connect GMBs to that specific site and get local citations going and all that jazz. but now I am not sure about this.
Do you think its better to just connect those GMBs to sub domain pages on a single URL

About 15 years ago there was a very popular directory script called PHP Link Directory. I'm trying to find sites to submit my reptile store to but so far its all these old PHP Link Directory sites, which are probably no longer maintained. Should I bother submitting to them?
The average position for the site's first 30 days was 78.5, and for the last 30 days its had an average position of 56.2.

I am only worried about this because I read that google favors subcategories where all of the content relates to itself.

We sell a lot of books through amazon as Kindle direct printing makes our books. Currently, we are using squarespace blocks for amazon affiliate links and do not sell any amazon manufactured product on our page. Are these outbound links going to effect my sites SEO (we have 30 and growing)?
Also, is there any way to sell these products directly on my site and have them fulfilled by amazon? This is the ideal situation but I have never of anyone doing this when amazon manufactures the product.

Basically, should we be including the neighborhood along with our targeted keywords in our content? Or does the location from which people make their search query make this irrelevant? I imagine there are a lot of people searching for a spa, but not a ton searching for “spa in [our neighborhood].”
I don’t want to limit us to a certain neighborhood if google will already do that when it displays results based on proximity.

Has anyone in here tried blogging in two or more langages? Did it help your SEO or was it just waste of time/effort? What are your feedbacks on it?
With all these various gTLDs such as .services, .company, .tips, .money, .code, etc.,
has anyone seen Google treating these gTLDs the same way or differently than they treat .com’s or .net’s.
Obviously ccTLDs are treated based on location. For example, a .eu will perform better on Google.eu than it would in Google.ca, however I am not seeing any indication that Google even allows sites that reside on these domains to rank well.
I have seen .co’s which were initially created as a ccTLD for Colombia however now is treated as “company” and I have seen some .io’s rank well but nothing for these other domains.
I am thinking the following:
1) there aren’t enough domains with these extensions built up enough to rank well.
2) People aren’t buying them when considering a domain name therefore we don’t see them as much in search.
3) Google handles them differently. *I wouldn’t say Google excludes them from the index entirely as I have seen domains with these extensions in the Google index when searching the exact domain.
I just sense that Google discounts them as it pertains to ranking signals.
Any thoughts on this would be helpful. If you see any domains like these that are ranking well for a competitive keyword and can supply the keyword here so I can check out that index and perform some analysis would be helpful too.

In short, the strong cause of a mostly legit link portfolio including .govs and .edus galore, mostly because the owner was a professor and expert on a specific topic and wrote a lot about it.
Site is over 20 years old and has sat for a long time (10+ years) without updates. Meanwhile, original owners son has sold links, etc. on the site (pretty spammy stuff) to monetize. Now, selling the site completely cause traffic is down.
I've repaired manual actions in the past with success but this one is less obvious as to why it's banned. GSC isn't helping either.
Question is this- Anyone have experience in identifying the root cause of bans and has anyone seen a site which cannot be brought back from the dead?
I'm doing a major makeover to my website, which currently ranks well on Google and I don't wanna mess with this.
Currently the site has been cloned using a plugin called Duplicator onto a sandbox environment to recreate all the visual changes behind the scenes.
Once the new site is ready, do I simply swap out the old site for the new one that I made?
All the links are the same.
Will I encounter any SEO issues or deindexing of any past content, or will this mess with / undo my current sitemap ?

I've recently come across the benefits of using schema markup on my pages and couldn't be more excited on reaping it's benefits. My only question is what pages should I specifically be using this markup on? Should it be every page? Or the ones that are most trafficked?
We managed to purchase a competitor site in our same niche (decade old site with loads of organic traffic).
Are there any SEO considerations going forward? If we start directing traffic from that site to our main site, are there risks? Will Google notice that we now own it and penalize the site if we start linking back?

I am merely a mediocre web developer, when this client came to me I thought he was going to ask only for small changes, but apparently, he wants help in a part of web development I am not that familiar with yet.
Currently, I got this client who wants his images chronologically (recent - oldest) on Google Images. I told him it was possible, but after doing some research, I am starting to have my doubts. His site is being hosted on Wordpress, and I have gotten access to all his posted content.
After digging around in the content itself, I noticed almost none of the images have some way to show when they were uploaded with what period they are connected (picture of steam trains would have to do with 1850, that kind of connection).
What is the best way to solve this problem? Is it even solvable?

How to select an amazon product keyword that is low competitive?
OK, it's pretty obvious. I am a total neophyte here.
I did what the famous SEO bloggers told me to do-- I wrote personalized emails to a bunch of bloggers and asked (nicely) how I could guest post; I asked if they would give our company a link; etc. etc.
I did get replies. The response rate wasn't terrible. But now I have to pay the blog (everyone wants money and I'm cool with that), then pay for the writer, then continue emailing people. ARGGGGG! I can't do all that AND run my business!
So I see there are all these companies out there that "sell" niche edits for $50ish a pop, all these places that "sell" guest posts for $100+ a pop. But it all feels a bit scammy. I feel like I am in shark infested waters for sure. Gurus of Reddit, I am begging for your wise counsel:
(1) Is buying these niche edits and/or buying these guest posts an ok thing do to?
(1a) Will I get punished or rewarded in rank for spending our SEO budget this way?
(1b) How can I tell the scammers from the legit sellers? Is there anyone you can recommend as "trustworthy'" for this?
(2) If we don't have the cash for an agency and we don't have the manpower to do all this outreach ourselves, is this the next best way to get backlinks? Or is there something I'm missing.
We've written great content, but it's not ranking. No one knows about us! We are not sandboxed (we've been around for a few years, and do rank for some words in our niche.) We have a keyword difficulty for the kw we are targeting of 10 to 15. Appreciate your input.

I’ve submitted my website’s sitemap to Google Search Console.
Submitted: 17 Jul 2019 Last Read: 23 Jul 2019 (What does last read means?) Status: Success
Once I click into the sitemap that was submitted to GSC, it says sitemap was processed successfully.
However, when I open the sitemap (/sitemap.xml), the LastChange is showing dates from 2015.
Is there any steps which I miss or it takes GSC sometime to process this?

I'd like to share an idea for calculating the backlink relevance.
You link to one site, that site links to another site, which links to another, and a chain is formed. How many websites on this chain then link back, returning to your site? Social media should be excluded from this chain or may work url-based.
Do you think there is such a calculation in the Google algorithm?
A client of mine has this problem:
A competitor uses adwords to call my client a scammer in order to get his potential clients. As far as I can tell it works well, since traffic and sales dropped since the ad is active.
Obviously, the claims in the ad are false and only there to steal clients. What can we do in this situation?
Option A: bid more on the selected keywords and buy all ads. but I feel this is not the proper way.
Option B: Can we contact google about this? Any experience?
Option C? ??
