Trying to Get Into SEO. What is the process?

Hi all,

I am completely new to this so please excuse my if I sound completely uninformed. I want to build some basic sites and implement SEO in order to make some passive income. I have a few questions just to get my feet on the ground.

How do most of you build your sites? From scratch (HTML/CSS), using tools like Squarespace, etc?

From there, how do you go about implementing SEO?

Am I thinking about this properly or missing anything?
